Glad to see there are a few posts of sense like this one. Was going to reply to the thread last night but it wasn't really the time so, much though I'll get abuse for posting about it now, at least I waited until the day after!

I might be biased but I thought Quinny did a very good job yesterday. A lot of times the smaller clubs dont get the lickings of a dog when it comes to praise from the sky commentators so it was refreshing to see a commentator not just go on about how badly Arsenal were playing but actually give the opposition praise for making them look bad (tbh, tin hat on but I didnt think Arsenal were all that bad, I thought Wigan were just a lot more up for it and played well above themselves). Wigan went there having never won at Arsenal, they battled all over the pitch, every one of their players was class and they thoroughly deserved their win, they outfought and outplayed a much superior side away from home. Quinn sounded very enthusiastic but then he loves his football and, having expected a routine Arsenal win (we all did, I nearly didnt watch because I thought it would be no contest) he was presumably just excited by the match. It wasnt a slight at Arsenal, he wasnt "anti-Arsenal" he just enjoyed the game and called it in much the way that most neutrals would, namely that Wigan put up a great battling performance and aye, he might have been happy to see them get over the line with the 2-1 but only because they deserved it. Hes meant to convey some of the excitement of the occasion and he did that. Calling him a c*** for it is a bit harsh, I wish more commentators displayed a genuine love of the game like Quinn does.

sure he called it like it was, but didnt have to take such delight in it, meant to be impartial.

Quinninho was waaay over the top last night with his one sided "support" of Wigan. I couldn't believe my ears the way he kept continually, telling us how "proud their manager must be", "how well they're playing" etc.

Every fcuking two minutes he was at it. I actually turned the sound down cause I couldn't listen to his gushing any more. It was blatant, obvious and fcuking disgracefull from an ex Arsenal man first and from a supposed neutral pundit second.

Yes we were shit, yes we got well beaten but Quinn was bang out of order. Fcukin tit.
End of rant.

I don't have Sky or even a TV for that matter usually watch/listen on a stream or on radio - the latter being pretty awful and bad for the ole ticker

And as for Quinn he did well for the Arsenal as a player...not a legend for me....but as a pundit, I've never thought him that articulate or knowledgeable. I would say Neville (as much as he was/is a *word censored* as an ex-manc and Beckham loving bum boy, he does 'tell it like it is'.

I think this is the most sensible post on here. He didnt say anything that was wrong but did seem to take delight in saying it. I think thats the only thing Quinn did wrong

Thought Quinn was trying too hard to be seen to enjoy the game. Yeah he was a bit sickening, but wouldn't expect anything else. Always felt he had a bit of a chip on his shoulder about Arsenal. In his defence he has to live with "that hair". . :D

Trying not to get too involved in this one (since I think Niall is the biggest legend in Sunderland's history and since I think he is an utter gentleman and all round top bloke the type of whom are increasingly rare in today's society) but I have to refute the bit about a chip on his shoulder about Arsenal. I've met Niall a couple of times and know for an absolute fact that he is very fond of Arsenal, one time in particular it was very evident- he supports Sunderland obviously, we're his main love when it comes to football, but to suggest he has anything against Arsenal at all is exceptionally wide of the mark, crazily wide of the mark in fact

Nothing but respect for Quinn, id love him to be involved at Arsenal now linking the management / board and fans. The fact that a Mackam respects what he did shows just how hard he worked there, and didnt stay around glory hunting to the deteriment of the club either - which given as he had a big hand in where they are now must have been hard.

Didnt hear the commentary as i was at the game, but it was one of the nights where we didnt turn up against a team that played excellently....in this league if your a 6 out of ten and the opposition is 6.2 on the night - you will lose. Wigan more than deserved their win, its football, it happens - to all clubs not just Arsenal, no matter how good the team is.

Wigan are obviously the media darlings at the minute but I didn't think Quinn was any more "enthusiastic" about them than Tyler was, & he's the most pro-Arsenal commentator I can think of (since Brian Moore retired/passed) - not that that's saying much. Cant say I've complained when they've praised Arsenal lavishly in the past. Only issue I'd have with it is if some country employs those sort of time wasting tactics against Ingerland/Ireland in the Euros will they still think it's so understandable/acceptable? Like fuck they will.

Although I agree with IU4GN and others, I also concur that at times Quinn was going over-board. Especially when about 10 minutes in he was saying Wigan deserved to be 2-0 up, despite it being their only attacks and Arsenal having had a similar amount of attempts!! :? Mind you, I've nearly always got the impression from Quinn's previous match analysis that he nearly always does that. :rubchin: :rubchin: But unlike others I'm not normally accused of being paranoid. Honestly!! (Although that's kind of ironic, being the puff-head that I am.)

What a load of sour grapes. Big deal so he was impressed by them, so was I, were the Arsenal fans who stayed and clapped them off the pitch also out of order?

Seems to be a load of glory hunters posting in here these days. Slagging everyone off from the comfort of their laptops/tvs, even ex Arsenal players. What happened to being gracious in defeat?

Even title and cup winners Alan Smith, Paul Merson and Brian Marwood aren't allowed to say anything honest in some peoples eyes.

Hugh - I've bolded part of your point. That is what this new Forum is all about. This place is for newbies who know sweet FA about anything, let alone The Arsenal. Hence you get a load of drivel written. Even the Irish clique write most of their dross from the comfort of a bedsit. The excuse at the moment for non-attendance is "the recession". Doesn't stop you getting over to the Emirates once in a while.
