Abiding memories of this season

Abiding memories of this season

Post by Top Londoner »

As this season draws to a close, I have found myself drifting into a melancholic frame of mind.

August and the nighmares are but a distant memory, but the pain remains.
On reflection of this season, there are some positives to be hopeful of,,,,,,,,erm,,,,,erm,,,,, aah yes. Chelsea away and Liverpool too. Tootsies at home. RVP giving us a full season and showing us that he is the player we all wanted him to be. Ox showing more pace, ball control and attacking endeavour than Walcott.

It is strange that my abiding memory of this season is of a manager that has no grace, who thrashes around water bottles during a hissy fit and one whom cannot conduct himself in a respectable manner when acknowledging a defeat to another manager. Crikey, he has has enough experience. Swansea, QPR, Wigan, Blackburn and lest we forget the score at OT, to name a few. He must feel rather embarrassed that he was tactically out thought by some less experienced managers along the way.

Song has been, well Song. Rather hold the ball up, get tackled, lose possession, foul, free kick etc etc etc. Or he might find the killer pass to RVP, goal.
Ramsey, meh.

Our medical team unable to diagnose a nosebleed, and if they were to do so, then they would probably stuff swarfega up the nostrils.

Gooners singing at OT during the defeat was class as was the game against AC Milan at home 3-0.

The atmospheres as we beat Chelski 5-3 at the Bridge and The Spuds 5-2 at home will live long in the memory.

In the years to come the last 3 seasons will blur into one in my mind and the abiding memory will be games like:

Wigan 3-2
Spurs 3-2
Newcastle 4-4
West Brom 3-2
Manchester United 8-2
Wigan 2-1
Swansea 3-2

etc etc etc

I'll remember the few world class players we've seen play for us in that time but the main memory will be of the arrogant, chaotic and completely unprofessional outfit that Arsenal have become.

I'll stick to a rule of 3 on this one - in the plus column:

1. Captain Chav slipping on his muggy chops at the Bridge before RvP put us 4-3 up
2. Seeing those twats with their "Mind the Gap" T-shirts looking crestfallen after the 5-2 mauling - lets just hope we have the last laugh on Sunday
3. Seeing our one remaining world class player reach his peak form and produce a host of matchwinning performances

In the minus column:

1. The humiliation of an 8-2 defeat at OT confirming just how low the club has sunk in recent years. Whilst the singing of the main hardcore fans was a great reflection on them, the dickheads bearing the banner "Who'd Heard of Fabregas and Nasri 4 years ago", as if selling your top players in the peak years of their careers was some form of 'badge of honour', is a memory that I think will never leave me. Thank god I've never seen the fucking thing displayed again

2. The most abject 0-4 surrender in the SanSiro against a mediocre Milan side - the worst European night I can ever remember

3. The complete lack of attacking options outside of RvP. In any game where we've struggled, the sight of Chamakh and/or Park trotting up and down the touchline, brings home just what a bunch of also rans we are outside of our top few players

Of course there's loads more but thats the top and bottom 3

Following SteveO's rule of three:

Positives:

Van Persie's goal against Everton.

Van Persie's winning second goal against Liverpool. (My Arsenal goal of the season).

Benayoun's goal against Norwich.

Negatives:

Wondering how a chubbster like Santos could be signed (though he has since slimmed).

Sagna having two broken legs in the same season!

Wilshere being out for the season.

I can't forget the disgrace of the 8-2 defeat at old trafford. To lose by that margin to a once rival team and our worst defeat in 115 years is an absolute disgrace and if Wenger had any decency he would have walked 10 minutes after the full time whistle.

There have been the odd good time this season but very few and far between the above defeat will not leave me for a long long time

You're joking surely? It was a good strike dont get me wrong but the Norwich defence practically invited him to stick it in the corner. Rather then remember that goal I am more inclined to remember how we took that for game won and went on to spend the next 43 minutes being penned in by championship plodders.

Game of opinions and all that

Not joking. It was a class goal. He was given a bit of time and space on the ball, but he finished in spectacular fashion.

From games I was at.

Good 1-0 in Marseille my first away win in Europe, RVP goal against Everton, Benayoun header then Hutton getting 2 quick yellow cards at Villa Park. I also won't forget the Dortmund fans quickly.

Bad, Milan away watching a terrible performance as Arsenal conceded 4, the worlds loudest and most annoying PA system there as well. Watching Arsenal loose to Sunderland in the FA cup just a few days after Milan. Watching Santos get injured in Athens and some really awful keeping.

The season can be summed up in one match. The game at Swansea.Totally outplayed at our own game and given a football lesson we somehow pulled it back to 2-2. 15 seconds after Swansea kicked off again the ball was in our net

Positives: RVP stayed fit at last!!!!
Almunia and Flappy didnt start a league game
The emergence of the Ox

Negatives:the 8-2 a result that was unforgivable
Santos Gervinho Mertesacker and Park.Poor poor signings
Wenger blaming everyone but himself

Fair enough, but an abiding memory of the season?

There are others but other posters are going to cover them on this thread.

As time goes by I tend to remember goals rather than results.
