THE BOARD - Kroenke, Usmanov and Finance

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

the one thing that this Chelsea CL win might do is to make other supporters realise this too.
sadly without a billionaire bankrolling your team there is now no way Arsenal will win another PL title.

It was just about possible when there was 1 bankrolled team, but impossible now there are 2.
Manchester United are in the same situation as us. With Usmanov on board there could be an elite group of 3 clubs competing with United, Liverpool and Spurs fighting it out for 4th place. Without him groundhog day (at best) will continue.

Moaning about Wenger is stupid and irrelevant. No we will probably not win anything under him again but we would do even worse (Europa League) without him. It is all about the owners now.

KROENKE OUT
Spot on. Money and lots of spending is the answer and anyone naive enough to refute this need only be pointed in the direction of the Etihad & Stamford Brige to see that this is indeed the case.

Mcdowell. re: angry of islington. It was a good read.

Personally, my views of the ownership of our club are less relevant with each passing season. I am now just another number to my club.

Football, as I grew up with it, has changed. I don't really feel a part of my club anymore. I stopped putting my hard earned money into it at the time we moved stadium.
When my team put up an abject display on the pitch and thus lose to teams that we use to dominate, I still hurt madly. Even if we have run of winning games, I still look back to the last defeat and wonder, what if?

I am beginning to have an opinion of, yeah, fcuk it, let's go down the same route as the 'sugar daddy' clubs. Get in a shady gazillionaire to throw his loose change at us, and win everything in site, be competitive and be hated by rivals again.

A change in stance by me. I couldn't give a monkey's for how Usmanov got his money. Not now. My principles and morals no longer have a place in modern day footy.

When the game implodes, and it will. I shall still have my club in my heart, and then I shall begin to support them, (financially) again.

Whilst I think that Angry of Islington's wish for a combined Kroenke-Usmanov run board is a decent wish, how realistic is it?

I guess only the board themselves know that one.

From what was written yesterday on Gooner Talk it is very unlikely.

A whole lot of nothing really - it scratches the surface, it suggests a working merger between usmanov and the greedy yank would be the best option but acknowledges that it isnt likely and it doesnt really state an opinion as to which of the current options would be for the best :? The thing that really pisses me off about the usmanov versus kroenke debates is that to balance the argument out some people suggest things that might happen under usmanov - ffs we can see what a pile of shit the club is going to be if kroenke remains in charge so surely the evidence that is right there under our noses far outweighs guesswork on what may happen in the future ?

It baffles me how much of an easy ride kroenke gets from the fans - he doesnt demand success, he doesnt push investment but he doesnt even attend the fcuking games   Debates can be held on various owners (usmanov, abramovich, risdale etc) and what their motives and agenda's are but at least they attend fcuking games and appear interested in how their team is doing whilst our yankee c**t shows so little respect for us and the club that he doesnt even try and disguise the fact that he is purely money motivated

I have never ever claimed that usmanov is the answer to our prayers - what I will say is that I believe that he would be a big improvement on our existing set up and for me when you recruit new personnel (be they managers, players or owners) all you can hope for is that they are an improvement on their predecessors. The set up at the top level of our club is stale and vastly outdated and needs a major major shake up and whilst it would be lovely to bring back the days before money took over the game, we have to accept that those days are long gone and wont be returning anytime soon and imo they will never return. We have to either step up to the new way of running clubs that are also evident in europe (psg and malaga for example) or we take a step back and be a mid level club who people will look back on in years to come as a club like notts forest and huddersfield......clubs who were once great clubs but who got left behind when the game changed :( :( :(

I really cant see Kroenke going anywhere in the near future unless Usmanov is willing to offer him a price that would lead to him to sell up so quick after spending a lot of money to take control of the club. As far as im concerned he has no intrest in seeing the club return to the glory days as if he did he would go over Wengers head and hire a GM to take control of player purchases. It seems as if he is happy for the club to tick over in the top 4 and keep making money year on year without having to pump any transfer funds in. The big question with Usmanov coming in is whether he is willing to just give the club the money or will he leave the club in debt and that is a price that i wouldnt be willing to pay.

Whatevers happens we need someone who can organise our defence. Part of me says we cant just throw money at the problem if we continue to not coach players at all and send them out on the pitch thinking they can just play and win the game. We could have done a lot better this year if we had a defensive coach who could get them playing to a level that cuts outs all the daft errors and bad positioning.

We know our limits now, and have found our niche ; Personally we have our opinions on the ownership issue, but they are not relevant from a REDaction point of view.... only YOU have the power to change it, so get involved ; If you choose not to, then fine ; but don't make misinformed remarks about those that do (directed at the previous poster, not Augie), as these are the guys and girls getting off their arses and trying to make a difference ; Arsenal would be a much better place for all if we had more fans who were doers instead of talkers.

cook, augie etc

I AM LOVING THIS.......

firstly- i was the one that put up this posting because i do care

secondly -you haven't a clue who am i or the depth of my involvement from different perspectives as a fan

i am home away and europe EVERY GAME, have sat on Arsenal fans forums and done lots to help the cause over the years but whatever you say and Augie has hit Cook raw nerve, Red action in particular has hung it hat on pro Kroenke and ante Usma , Aisa is fine for general club issues like ticket prices but again has made it clear that it backs the current regime.

When Usmanov gains control , and he will, then I can assure you the Kroenke cronies will be made to squirm and I will happily assist any formal fan liaison group to act in the clubs and us fans best interests but they have backed the wrong fcukin horse and are now in a cosy corner with Gazidis and can't get out

I'd be very weary of Uzmanov. He has a checkered past. Even some of you have stated he has a ruthless streak to win, but at what cost. How long would it be before stories of bribery & corruption should Jabba be in charge. The modern day Norris? It would be shameful should we win the CL only to be stripped of the title as the ref was black mailed! Banned from the competition for several years and other such penalties.

I'm not against investment but just Uzmanov himself worries me.

I actually think the current business model is fine. It makes money and more is to come. The problem is that there is money but Wenger isn't using it nor using it wisely. So it wouldn't matter if you gave him £100M to spend as he'd only use about £20M...and that would be on several youngsters and a bumper pay raise for Song!
Were I do agree is that as much as I'm in favour of the model I'm not happy with the board members. Hill-wood definitely need to be removed.

The only reason that the Duffer that is Hillwood remains at the club is because all the shares he sold were sold in the 80's to the Chancer David Dein came with the caveat that he remains the chairman for life !
At that time he only shares he didn't Own were the Carrs and a few others making less than 10 percent .

He pissed away the majority of his shares to Dein for less than 3 million quid However Dein couldn't afford them so he sold some to Fizman with a gentleman's agreement to get them back which never happened as Clock end Danny saw a way to get even richer by getting outsiders to bid up the price .
Dein sold out @ around 6000 quid a share ,Fizman was holding on for 7000 but didn't want to sell until he got his Swiss citizenship so he could avoid capital gains tax in the UK,as he played the bidders off against themselves .
His lasting legacy is placing us in the hands of a man who feels quite rightly that he has already paid too much for the club .

For a man who is an Etonian and an Investment banker Hillwood is a clown and not a patch on his Old man Dennis .

But he is here for life !

I'm painting an extreme picture yes. But how far will Uzmanov go to get the same success with Arsenal.
The folks at FIFA aren't angels, taking money for bids etc... What's not to say that an international ref or linesman manages to suddenly 'aquire' a boat or a sports car?
I'm just sceptical of Uzmanov and the way he conducts his business.

Personally, and I am not advocating support for corruption of any kind, but I would be more sceptical of an owner who doesnt give two fcuks if we are winning or not than an owner willing to do all he can to gain success

Because he has a shady rep. as a business man doesnt mean he will fix football matches. There are very few ultra rich businessmen in this world who havent pushed boundries at some point or another but that doesnt translate into fixing sports
