What? Of course not, because Bould wouldn't have been there.bet if Pat Rice had there another 10 years with Wenger, you wouldn't have even posted that
BOULDY THE NEW PAT RICE??

After all we have for years been screaming at Wenger to bring the old guard back.....now he has done that people still moan.....
I for the record believe its a great move and he will succeed because he is a winner
I have long thought that we needed a shake up here and Bould and Banfield could end up being the best signings we have made for years. Bould is no Yes Man and he won't be shy about giving someone a bollicking which is what we need.
They are not there for an easy ride and are serious individuals who will want to make their mark.
The noises coming out from the players is a good sign.

I think you are mixing up the idea of him not being a yes man (when it comes to his interaction with Wenger) with the idea of any normal coach having a yell at players in training. Two very different areas of his job.and he won't be shy about giving someone a bollicking which is what we need.

The problem (IMHO) is not solely one of how the coach interacts with the players, it's also one of what priority (or not) that the manager puts on proper defending and allowing the coach to work with the defenders. How much time will Wenger give Bouldy to work with the defenders in each training session? I'd bet not much. I would also bet (given the proof we've all seen over the years) that Wenger will not let a little thing like solid unfancy defending compromise his religious-like belief in tippy tappy passy pass pass.
Re: Steve Bould: Will it work?
At the end of the day DB nobody knows how it will work and we are all just guessing to be honest. Personally I think Wenger Needs someone beside him that will question him. Am not knocking Rice in any way as he has been a legend for the club, but I have long thought a shake up in this area was needed.DB10GOONER wrote:Hang on. Where has anyone seen or read anything coming out of Bouldy to indicate this? All I've ever heard him say is how great Arsene and his methods are. Fair enough, he has to say that to keep his job, but I would imagine an even quicker way of losing his job would be to actually stand up to Wenger.

I believe they are not there to collect their wages and I also believe they know that improvements are needed in our structure and organisation on the pitch. That is part of their job and they know have Wenger's ear. Hopefully he will take on board what they advise as we all know Wenger can be stubborn.
The noises coming out from the players about the defensive coaching is good news for me and I hope it continues.
Bould straddled both Graham and Wenger's years and I believe he has learnt from both. As regards being a yes man, was he not involved with Adams in the famous meeting where the defense has a right go at Petit and Vieira over not covering the defense which helped bring together the team which led to some glory years.
I don't know whether him and Banfield will work out but I believe they will and will help bring some leadership qualities and passion that we all know Bould possesses to the training ground and hopefully onto the pitch.
I would not like to get a Bollicking Off him

I hope you are right Vinny, but everything I've read from Bouldy leads to me to think he will have not much more impact than Rice.
BTW; the lads having a pop at Petit and Vieira was just amongst the players. I wouldn't say that indicates he will stand up to Arsene...

Maybe I'm wrong DB but I think Wenger himself knows that some change is needed and that will help.
We shall see.

How do you work that out?? Wenger is a stubborn, senile old bastard, he'll never change.Vinny1967 wrote:Yeah I know they were players at the time.DB10GOONER wrote:...

would rather an unknown quantity rather than a jobs for the boys appointment
Re: Steve Bould: Will it work?
Well we can't get much worse Frank

Re: Steve Bould: Will it work?
Doesn't look like he's had much influence judging from the pre season games.
