Players behaviour after the Stoke match!

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

To be fair I work part-time at a hotel where most Championship/PL teams play before they play at Cardiff/Swansea, and all the big clubs are like this from what I've witnessed. United are by far the most reclusive and paranoid.

Of course it's no excuse when players just deadpan fucking ignore fans who they come across who have paid hard-earned cash to go to a dump to watch a shit game, but AFC are hardly alone in trying to restrict situations that give rise to uncontrolled player-fan contact.

I remember a decade ago I was on the putting green on a golf course as an eleven year old kid and you can imagine my surprise when I looked across and saw David Seaman and Romford Pele horsing around (they were staying there before the Community Shield vs Liverpool). I happened to have on that horrible yellow 'V' kit that had been handed down from my older brother and they were really talkative and signed the shirt. Unfortunately I was so nervous that I also asked two unknown members of the coaching staff to sign it too, and I haven't been able to trace their identity since despite extensive research.

My Dad also bought about 5 Michael Thomas Anfield photos and sent them off to Wimbledon where he was playing out his days and he returned all of them signed. One of my most prized possessions is a large framed picture of THAT David Seaman save which my Dad sent off to Man City and asked him to sign with a personalised message, which he duly did. Just wouldn't happen any more. Legend.

Sometimes I think these people don't even know how to deal with "normal" people. They're praised and paid so highly for so many years, even from such a young age, it's as if they don't learn to socialize properly with fans. Still, there's no excuse, it's just a sad state of affairs.

I can understand the club wanting players to stay away from strangers, as silly as that sounds. They're trying to protect their investment. If some irate Arsenal fan is fucked off with Theo, and gets close to him acting friendly and then stabs him, the club would have basically just lost millions.

It's all money. Money separates the players from beyond relation to everyday working class people. Money makes it so the club can't risk any chance of injury to their prized assets. If you want to blame anything, blame the fact the game is money money money now.

To be honest though, there's still plenty of guys who would love fan support. League Two sides for example, would still surely give you a more wholesome, traditional football experience.

If anyone is getting stabbed, it's the fans in the back by the club :| That or Wenger by RVP, Song, Nasri, Ade...

ElliotGooner wrote:After the game I was waiting at Stoke-on-Trent station for the train back to civilized society when a full 9 carriage Virgin train pulled up to take the players back to London (a service which cost me £50 for a seat later that day) while AFC would rather spend the money on hiring a whole train for 30-40 staff instead of just a few carriages.

Anyway, there was a line of 3 or 4 police officers separating the fans from the players which meant this was the perfect opportunity for the fans to interact with the players/staff. As Theo walked out on the platform the crowd started chanting his name to which his reaction was to stare at the floor not even bat an eyelid and jump on the train (he wasn't even wearing headphones). Mugged off. This was the common reaction apart from Jenkinson, The Ox and Mertesacker who all waved and responded to whatever the crowd said usually with a thanks. AW simply raised his hand in the air and didn't even look at us.

Now I know you might say that the players are under no obligation to interact or to show some form of gratitude for the support they receive but after paying £40 for a ticket and £80 on travel, to see the majority of the players simply ignore us made me think whats the point? Travelling half the length of the country to support them when they cant even be bothered to look at us or applaud back when they are only a few feet away. So what am I supporting? A bunch of over-paid out of touch idiots? If AW had simply said thanks for your support today to the 20 or so of us standing by the train I would at least have felt our support was being acknowledged. What am I travelling up to Liverpool next weekend for? Why am I spending a grand on a season ticket? I have never felt so out of touch with the club I've supported for 20 years.
These overpaid and mainly useless bunch of *word censored* need a reality check, they should have monkey poop and rancid rotting fruit chucked at them that would soon change their stance, anyway, if I had seen them I would have booed the wankers.
