Agree that Szczesny is the better keeper and should play but I would say he was poor for much of the second half of last season. Cost us points during our dreadful run over New Year at Fulham and Swansea and really got the ball rolling for Milan, not to mention his howler against Norwich and being out of position for Morison's equaliser, which should really have cost us 3rd place. His arrogant attitude and performances are making me re-evaluate my judgement on him towards best of a bad bunch, which is a pity because he's got the talent.goonerwalker wrote:Got to stick with Chesney as number one keeper. Apart from the howler against Norwich he was excellent last season so he is the only keeper on our books to have proven himself to be a reliable starter in the PL for a sustained period so deserves the jersey. Let's forget Mannone has had his moments too, Olympiakos anyone?

After saturday can I vote for Gunnersaurus ????
Re: WHO STARTS IN NETS
OK, so Woj is our best keeper, but it is embarassing when peopled ignored the fact he had trouble saving so many shots. Look at De Gea, he has the presence of Vito in the box but he excels at shot stopping.
I just hope Sczeneny's has learnt he isn't half as good as he thinks he is and he needs to work hard to be a long term no1. To be fair his poor euros performances were the wake up call he needed.

There's no doubt that Szczesny is our long term number 1. He's got everything a keeper needs; presence, shot stopping, positioning, handling, bravery, organization and has even improved his distribution. His biggest problem is his mentality. His concentration can be extremely poor. Once he sorts that out, which at 21 yo it isn't something you would rule out from him, then he'll be acknowledged as a top class keeper.

He could do with some coaching with his distribution when hes kicking the ball out.

Waiting for the typical knee-jerk reaction to one of his 3 or 4 great games a season that we should have signed Jaaskelainen a decade ago.
Re: WHO STARTS IN NETS
Not knee jerk. Jussi would have been better than all the rest since Mad Jens went. And no I don't think he's good enough for the Arsenal. Says it all really.

Perenially overrated, has a few blinders a year that are hyped up and people think he's one of the best around. In truth he's very average for the rest of the year and makes far more mistakes than most PL keepers, in addition to being fucking shite in the air.

Not exactly how I would have described Sczesney myself, but that's the closest thing to an accurate description I've heard.northbank123 wrote:Perenially overrated, has a few blinders a year that are hyped up and people think he's one of the best around. Neither of them fill me with great confidence, looks like our defenders feel he same.

You just described the GK we hope he will be. His shot stopping isn't great, and his judement is rash although that is something you get from experience.
Re: WHO STARTS IN NETS
Think sadly his ego is currently beyond his ability/performance. He could be really good...key word is could.

Watch that and then tell me his shot stopping isn't great.

Agree. Has the ability to be a top class goalkeeper for AFC for the next decade but unfortunately the longer he fucks around with his arrogant attitude and lack of concentration the lower his potential becomes.Lee1 wrote:Think sadly his ego is currently beyond his ability/performance.
