Songs at OT

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

He gets paid 200+k a week. I'm pretty sure it didn't hurt his feelings, after all he's been quoted as say "he couldn't hear the fans".

I think the songs were pointless, because I don't blame him for leaving. I blame the filth running our club & I blame Wenger. I didn't care that Wenger got the usual paedo/Saville jibes.

Personally, I found "One Arsene Wenger" to be the most disgusting, obscene chant all day. Nobody can claim it was as a retort to Utd's paedo chants, as we happily gave them to RVP & didn't find it 'disgusting'. That's massive hypocrisy.

People are happy to aim a few half hearted choruses at Gazidis, yet he sits next to Wenger at the AGM , states that he has full access to the £70 million transfer account every window & ignores it. Wenger picks the side, signs the shit & then plays said shit out of position. BLAME HIM AS WELL!

The constant "We love you Arsenal" gets my goat as well. It was done last year as we got raped 8-2. It seems now that we are setting a precedent for future trips to OT. Get hammered, accept it & sing that constantly to show we don't care about it. WE'RE THE ARSENAL let's show those *word censored* they're not fit to be.

And who is disagreeing that RVP "Left for Footballing reasons"? (earlier post).

As stated on here (or possibly a live blog or twitter) last week form someone talking to Wenger at the AGM, RVP turned down 300k a week at City. Why? To join a footballing dynasty, not a fly by night having a moment in the sun on the back of an Arab's money.

He scored against a piss poor side after a calamitous error by one of our 'better' players & then could have had another 2 or 3 in a team that could have rattled up a cricket score. His goals have put his team top of the league & sitting pretty in Europe.

I'd say that is perfect 'footballing reasons'.

I would have liked to have thought Arsenal fans were better than that
We're not, and its arrogant to suggest otherwise. Arsenal have a history of offensive songs, only last year at WHL I was in a crowd signing about wanting Adebayor to be shot. EVERY support does it. Right or wrong Arsenal are like every other club.

True, all clubs have pond life within their fan base.

I genuinely believe we have fewer than some other clubs though, but that's only based on my experience of going to games and gauging how many fans get involved in certain songs.

Yes the same fans that booed him during the 2003/04 pre season matches because he was dithering over a contract extension. Forget whatever this thick fucking prick says - he represents everything I hate in a modern footballer - thick as pig shit, a selective memory, a regular 'Tweeter' (code for '*word censored*') and some sort of amateur philosopher / politician with lots to say about nothing. Appalled by everything and everybody else but hardly a saint himself - the man who 'forgot' to take a drug test and let his country down. Fucking wanker

Yeah......and his dad is Mr Ed.....

However, some of the songs directed at our former player crossed the line in my opinion. I don't believe we can complain about some of the songs sung at our manager over the years if we're then going to lower ourselves to their level by singing songs making suggestions of rape and paedophilia.

We lost the moral high ground yesterday in my opinion. The quote which if often attributed to Rocky - Remember who we are and who we represent - applies to the fans just as much as the players. Perhaps more so, because we're the ones who stick around.

When I aired this view on Twitter yesterday, I quickly got told I was a "modern fan" by someone who was 19 :banghead: and it was "banter". If that's what people regard as banter thesedays then society is in a lot of trouble. Fortunately, I don't think that is the majority view, but it's amazing how loud the minority can be at times.
I'm not ashamed to say I was one of many who joined in with "that" song.

To me, it's not just banter, but expressing our feeling for that prick. Last year, we loved him. He was our hero and our Talisman. Then he leaves for "footballing reasons" but he respects the fans. OK fair enough. But then e joing United? Really? In his 8 years at the club, 7 years sat on the treatment table, did he not realise that maybe Arsenal and united slightly hate each other! :banghead: By singing that to him, it shows him how little he means to us now, How little we respect him. This is how I view it anyway.
For me posts like this show how bitter gooners have become over this issue, quite frankly I think some of the chants we directed at RVP where way out of order and show a complete lack of class. As someone else said how can we complain about the wenger chants that come from manure and spurs fans. RVP has exposed the fundamental problems in our club we should direct our anger at the board not ex players who quite frankly have the right to play where they want. We are not any sort of competition for manure at the moment so why make a big deal out of it. RVP also has never criticised gooners even aftare the abuse he got on saturday. Hes no cashley, ade or nasri so have a bit of respect.

While I don't agree with some of the chants I don't think he deserves an ounce of "respect" from Gooners who stood by him and kept the faith through all those injury-ravaged seasons.

IMHO the best way to show disdain is by ignoring him. I would love to see 57,000 Gooners simultaneously turn their back on van Persie when he returns to Ashburton Grove.

Just because he refrained from sprinting the length of the pitch or sticking two fingers up at the fans it doesn't make up for the lack of respect he showed us. Even if what he said in his statement was largely substantively true he was our captain and still under contract, he came out and slammed the club and implicitly branded his fellow players not good enough in order to force the club's hand to sell him quickly to that bunch of wankers. As if the whole situation isn't humiliating enough to have your captain and player of 8 years release a pathetic statement on his Twatter/website compounded the issue hugely, and anybody who thinks he did it to help the fans in the long run is kidding themselves. It was fucking cheap and cowardly and if he had any bottle he'd have just taken any abuse on the chin safe in the knowledge that he made the right decision (in his mind) instead of trying to weasel out of any blame.

Bitter and proud me 8)

I hate the :censored: . I don't hate him for leaving, but going to them lot is unforgiveable. Only going to Tottscum would be worse in my eyes.
