Swift is a legend, I was there at the Albert Hall when he won the world title in 1989.
DJing is not as easy as it looks to some.
DB10Gooner hates it because it involves a sense of rhythm and timing.
As opposed to setting an amp to full volume and wantonly strumming a guitar fantasising about being Jimmy Page.

Dan. Can I call you Dan? You are dead to me. DEAD. TO. This is the clip I always show people. Different time signatures? No problem! It's different tools from "traditional" music but turntablism is the live remixing & creation of new music from existing beats, breaks & samples in front of your eyes. That clip is taken from the movie "Scratch" and there's a great quote just before this scene, something like "a turntable is a musical instrument as long as you can see it to be one. You're dealing with notes, measures, rhythm, timing... It's just different tools."
My favourite routine of all time is this by the way; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SEAfl_Fh04

Sorry, no mate - it just does not compare to playing a real instrument. It would be like comparing kids playing FIFA 13 on their PS3 to Messi playing on an actual pitch for an actual team.

I got love for "real instruments" too you know...
I am not a DJ though, as a Hip Hop fan I am just speaking up for them.DB10GOONER wrote:Cannot accept that ANY single DJ has anything beyond the most basic sense of timing in 4/4. I can play in 3/4, 7/4, 4/4, 5/4. You name it, DJ JazzyQuartz, I can play in it.QuartzGooner wrote:Thanks Bournemouth.

For the record, Jimmy Page was good at what he did. But what he did was at the "basic" end of the guitar playing spectrum. He was quite limited technically and really just a riff writer at best. Not an insult to Page, they were great riffs and formed the basis of great songs, but he doesn't come near the likes of Randy Rhoads, EVH, Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai, John Petrucci, Paul Gilbert, Richie Blackmore and Joe Satriani (to name but a few!) for technical playing and mastering the instrument.
Your average 14 year old shredder could blow Page out of the water now days!
