What a spectacle this is

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

What a spectacle this is

Post by Wengerball »

Alright, this might not be Arsenal related but its an unbelievable prospect and something I'm sure a lot of our fans can sympathise with, except the fact that Wimbledon fans did have their actual club stolen from them.
Now I'm not saying that I have any particular affection for AFC Wimbledon but its an incredible story. Things keep going like they are Much longer we may have an AFC Arsenal

They have achieved so much down there in Merton ,but refusing to go and support their team because the old one still exists is childish in the extreme .
I'd prefer going en masse and have a good old fashion lutonesque Frisbee competition with the seats ,but that's just me :barscarf:

how awful must it be to simply lose your team, the team you've been following for your life, overnight. i deffo have sympathy for AFC wimbledon supporters and even though they are underdogs i hope they smash mk dons.

simply because what they did with the club (fc wimbledon) is the perfect example of what's wrong with modern football :banghead:

Fair play to them I say.

I recall, back in the day some mates of mine (Don's Supporters) demonstrating daily outside the FA headquarters (Soho Square?). All the usual stuff chants, placards and toot us for support stuff. They got some passing support, but they were there for months on end.
Even ten years ago when there was an idea of a new club being mooted, I thought that seeing a day like the draw coming up, was impossible.

I have a couple of old workmates to phone today, to congratulate them, and see if I can get me a ticket.

This is a victory for the little man.

The AFC Wimbledon fans I know didn't want this tie to ever happen. One said "A bit like going for dinner with the bloke who burgled your house".

This is no victory for the little man - in fact the total opposite. The little man had his club taken from him and relocated. Now the two meet in the cup and AFC fans have to decide if they can stomach going to MK. Nothing good or victorious in this story.

I can understand that but what the AFC Wimbledon fans have is a chance to go to their 'burglers' house and kick him square in the bollocks (in a football sense not a literal one) and those types of chances don't come along too often.

Must be a difficult situation for AFC fans, I can understand that some of them don't want to go to 'Stadium:mk' because of everything it represents.

Don't understand why Carl Robinson was supposedly dancing around his living room? Despite what I've said above surely this would be a more meaningful tie for AFC. The fans and long-term officials of MK are the ones who decided to support this franchise and ignored the opportunity to support the spiritual re-birth of their club, why is it such a big game for them? More of an embarrassment I'd have thought.

Was talking to a spud at work about this (fuck knows why) and the *word censored* brought up the usual shite about moving from Woolwich. Should have seen it coming really and avoided the conversation.

Remind that :censored: that Arsenal moved by choice and Wimbledon didn't...also remind him that when our club felt they needed a bigger stadium they (A) Built it themselves and (B) Stayed in the area... Unlike our neighbours who wanted a ready made stadium paid for by taxpayers and couldn't give a flying fuck where it was.

I know a lot of Dons fans from living in the area for years and what they have done with their club is incredible. The general feeling from the club is that as they have never recognised franchise fc as a real club, it is impossible for them to support their team at their ground. It was a real disgrace that Wimbledon was stolen from them and as a few people have pointed out over the years since, if the people of mk were that keen on having a team, why didn't they form one, support it and see what happened. AFC Wimbledon have proved that determination, support, passion and patience work.

I remember the first few games that AFC Wimbledon played and after chatting to a few of their fans, they told me that the ambition was to become a league team again inside a decade and hopefully pass franchise fc going the other ways on their way through the leagues, therefore avoiding them. I hope they go there, thrash them and then draw us at the Grove in the third round.
