Cannot accept that ANY single DJ has anything beyond the most basic sense of timing in 4/4. I can play in 3/4, 7/4, 4/4, 5/4. You name it, DJ JazzyQuartz, I can play in it.

For the record, Jimmy Page was good at what he did. But what he did was at the "basic" end of the guitar playing spectrum. He was quite limited technically and really just a riff writer at best. Not an insult to Page, they were great riffs and formed the basis of great songs, but he doesn't come near the likes of Randy Rhoads, EVH, Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai, John Petrucci, Paul Gilbert, Richie Blackmore and Joe Satriani (to name but a few!) for technical playing and mastering the instrument.

Your average 14 year old shredder could blow Page out of the water now days!

Sorry, no mate - it just does not compare to playing a real instrument. It would be like comparing kids playing FIFA 13 on their PS3 to Messi playing on an actual pitch for an actual team.

Dj craze is so so good, the way he's pioneered the use of traktor has taken turntablism to a new level.

I do see DB10's point, but I grew up idolising dj's not rock bands or guitarists ect. The skill and technique is unreal and ultimately it's all about hyping the crowd, creating 'those' special moments at a club or gig much the same way a band does when it all comes together perfectly.

I love bands and dance music and everything in between, I have guitars and decks but if I could choose either to be famous for it would always be the decks.

I am not a DJ though, as a Hip Hop fan I am just speaking up for them.
I checked out some of those guitarists you mention, having only heard of Blackmore off the top of my head.
It is all very technically excellent, but a bit "Hlebbish".
What is the end result?
Some good tunes for sure, but quite a lot of noise too.

DJs these days are akin to producers; they cut n scratch and transform and juggle and sample other tunes live and play drums machines live and synths too.

I would though take a good pianist, drummer or bassist over a good DJ or Axeman any day.
