Re: Season Tickets in 93/94
I'd agree with the figure of about 6,000 odd because you could buy tickets fairly easily for almost all games at almost all clubs until probably the mid-late 90s. Probably now I think of it, up until the season after Euro 96 when of course football began. In addition, clubs had a lot of refurbishment work to pay for because of the changes to all-seater grounds and started to push season ticket sales more forcibly because that gave them money up front. My dad had a friend through work who had his season ticket since the early 70s and he was a rarity because most people still rolled up and paid on the day or lined up and bought tickets in the weeks leading up to the match.

Apologies.... And although we could get 50000+ for a big game crowds of 20000 & below were not uncommon between the late 70's through to mid 90's.
Even when the north bank was being renovated it wasn't that difficult to get a ticket.
Sorry Mk but there was, I got my first season ticket for the 87 / 88 season at a cost of £60 !
I bought a season ticket as although I had been to 17/ 18 home matches in 86/87 I didn't get a ticket for the Littlewoods cup finalso decided to ensure my attendance at any future finals by being a season ticket holder (Luton on my birthday

)
I remember having to cut out vouchers from programmes to get tickets for the FA Cup Finals in 77-79, but don't recall having to do that for the League Cup Finals v Liverpool or Luton, so guess the Terrace ST's must have come in mid 1980's.

6,000 would be about right. My first ST was in tbe clockend in 1992 -95 quid. No waiting list.
I know it was capped at our FAC final allowance when the club still had integrity, to guarantee ST holders a ticket.
But of course they threw that away with our history when they sold us out and moved to the bowl, and now loyalty is rewarded with a lottery. Yay us.
I still maintain that one day we'll go back to 26k a week, cos that's what it was up to Euro 96 and the JCL's.

Re: Season Tickets in 93/94
Prior to the North bank renewal and the seating of the Clock end there were only 17.500 seats in the ground ,getting a season ticket wasn't an issue ,u could almost pick your seat ,in the 70's I went from near the back to centre in the upper west right by the restaurant mob ,in the east upper it was harder but still ok .
Contrary to others on here there was indeed Standing season tickets in both the clock and North bank introduced in the late 70's although how long they lasted I'm not sure.
There were however only about 6/7000 season ticket holders in those days so I'm not surprised ,even when the North Bank opened in 94/5 that only added about 4000 Season tickets to the list .
The capacity in 93/94 was reduced to 26 k k??? i think so having crowds of 18/20 K isn't surprising when u consider the allowance for non existent away support of 2,700 !
Of course many people preferred standing .....still do !

Standing season tickets were still going in the late 80's, they were £60.
Or if you came in over the summer to paint the terraces you got one for free, if my memory serves me right?

i'm not sure if they were in the late 80's early 90's though - i seem to vaguely remember a programme note in 1992 announcing Clock End standing season tickets. either they were reintroduced in 1992 or i'd never noticed them -which i think i would have because with any sending off we'd cheerily wave our red books at the departing scowling scouser/manc/ whoever, in droves. which was a bit hard to miss.QuartzGooner wrote:Standing season tickets were still going in the late 80's, they were £60.
the biggest crowd i remember was NYD against the scum in 84/85 ? - 0-0. but 54,000. a week later you could have put deckchairs out on the wings of The North Bank.

Re: Season Tickets in 93/94
The standing season tickets were originally non-specific as to where you stood, so you could alternate from Clock End to North Bank as you pleased depending on the opponents - I can only recall, Spuds, Mancs, and Chelsea having all the clock end (and not every game)QuartzGooner wrote:Standing season tickets were still going in the late 80's, they were £60.

i think in the nineties the club made you choose either clock end or North Bank (don't know why)
Re: Season Tickets in 93/94
How much would a season ticket cost for 93/94 season.
If it was £60 in the 80's you could have watched a decades football for the cheapest season ticket this season and still had money left over.

but my first season ticket was either that season or the one after
zero waiting list, you turned up at Highbury and picked a spot

Re: Season Tickets in 93/94
My season ticket in west lower was £286 95/96 season
I have previous one but theres no ticket inside them.
However to sit in my seat at Mers'es testimonial was £10.50
Also back in the days of my first game, North Bank, Programme, Hot Dog and still have change out of a quid.
My how things have change.

Now that's only going to give ammunition to those on this forum that already have you pegged as some kind of middle class teenager from the posh part of Islington/North London.

Re: Season Tickets in 93/94
I think they started terrace season tickets in 1981/2, I got one from 1982/3 and it was either £40 or £50 for 21 league games only, In effect you got one game free as admission was £2 or £2.50. They started to add cup games about 1985/6.

'pegged'? I am middle-class, I've stated it more than once...
Anyone embarrassed by their parents successes or failures needs to have a serious look at themself.
first games in the 80's I funded myself by selling bangers, fireworks and cigarette cards at skool.
later paid through bagging and pricing comics in a shop cellar (not easy work - those sellotape holder blades were sharp *queue violins*)
I think the season tickets had an inbuilt discount then - I was going to every game anyway
