flash gunner wrote:Nice one skizz... A couple of tips - run for a cause it does keep you motivated during the hard work (and shit cold weather in my case) of training and also get properly measured and fitted for your trainers, i had knee problems to begin with and couldn't work out why until i got the right trainers for my running style and no probs since :barscarf:
thanks flash. if i was being apathetic i'd insult the amount of money my mum raised for cancer research and no benefit from it (her words not mine!! ) but I will find something. the charity run itself is for a cancer research centre in moor park so that's a good start, also the motivation of doing it for her is big!

a guy at my office runs regularly and he said runners need is good for measurements, dont have to buy anything but apparently they make you get on a treadmill, check out your running style and pick them from there, did you do the same?
You've got the motivation already from your mum :)

I went to a local Asics shop and they got me to stand on a gel pad thing and they also watched the way i ran which meant i over-pronate (in other words i flatten my arches as i run) which meant i needed trainers with built up arches. They also find out what distances you're doing and then gave me a range of trainers to choose from. I chose a middle price pair which i think were £55 or so, so not super expensive and they have been spot on so far. The first pair i just bought off the shelf and they gave me big problems to the point where i nearly gave it up, the inside of my knees were so painful and i'd never had knee trouble before during my Sunday football days so knew something was wrong

These were excellent when I bought my last pair of running shoes - 3 years ago now
But there might be a shop/store near you....

They had me run up and down the street outside...and were able to set me up with a pair of trainers that REALLY did make one helluva difference...only £60 as well.

might look into that mate, cheers for advice. was looking to spend about that anyway...during football days i regularly spent £100+ on boots so can't shirk away from a decent pair of trainers which will last

they do say your friends are the family you choose...and sadly all too often people have members of their family who are complete kunts

i'm quite lucky in that i have a lot of very, very good people in my family - I haven't seen my old man for many years but his sisters who were good friends with my mum came to her funeral which i had a lot of respect for given i hadn't seen them for many years.

it's all about cutting the wheat from the chaff mate, my friends have been doing everything they can to help me out after mum passed so the best thing you can do at a time like this is ignore anyone who is a negative influence and focus on those who want to help....deal with the arseholes later....with a can of petrol...and a lighter

I am off to see Crewe Alex on saturday. used to do YTS as a kid with them, haven't been in years. should be fun. my cousin is just getting into football so taking him down, £20 for an adult and a kid. unbelievably cheap!

considering getting tickets to wembley to see them in the johnstone's paint final, cheapest seats are £20. don't see that in modern football often enough.

first class on virgin trains is lovely, the fact they couldn't organise a pissup in a brewery when it comes to a service that runs ontime takes away from it though. ...

Nice one. My local team Braintree beat Luton a couple of nights ago and did the double over them :barscarf: Always held a grudge against them from the League Cup final of '88
