SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

If that spineless little glove and rollneck wearing fuckwit comes back and we pay a penny more than we sold him for, I swear I'll fucking.........I'll fucking.........I'll fucking...........write to Points of View

It's encouraging that your self imposed holiday away from the forum has helped you calm down a little steve0. Anger management course was it?

In fairness, it has worked to an extent. A few weeks ago SteveO wouldn't have even entertained having Vela back at any price. Now he appears willing to do so on the proviso we don't pay over the odds. Now I don't know about you but that's what I call progress. 8)

Hope we avoid signing africans this summer. We have enough mercenaries on 50-60k a week, who abandon us every season for ACON.

Here in the Football Transfer Tavern Arsenal fans are getting more than a little panicked about the story in the Daily Mail that Manchester City are about to swoop for one of their main transfer targets.

City have turned their attention to 19-year-old midfielder Adam Maher. The youngster is currently making waves in the Eredivisie for AZ Alkmaar and is valued at £10 million. City of course are looking at a summer shake up and Arsenal are considering re-vamping their side in order to challenge for Champions League football once more but to finally end their trophy drought too.

Maher is odds on to leave his club at the end of the season and given the fact that Samir Nasri is reporetdly set to leave the Etihad Stadium, City feel that the Dutch teenage sensation could well prove his replacement. The playmaker is someone who Arsenal have had their eye on for a while now and could well be set to make a play for the player themselves.

The Gunners are of course well versed in seeing City not only take their players but outbid them to boot and this latest attempt has been met by shaken heads from the Arsenal supporting punters in the tavern today. Dutch international Maher is someone who has long been admired by Arsene Wenger and given his performances this season, it comes as little surprise.

It is not only Arsenal and City who have expressed an interest in the youngster however as Barcelona and Newcastle United have also taken more than a lingering glance at the talent.

I know he's reportedly a gooner and all that but why sign the defensive equivalent of Keiron Dyer. He keeps breaking down with injury, we'd need to sign another right back to cover for all the times he spends not playing.

If we got him for an obscenely cheap price and injury /bonus clauses then fine but if not waste of money I think.

Ok, let's prepare Arsene's checklist for summer transfers.....

1) Plays in the French league

2) Of African or French/African descent

3) Has had no more than one decent season

4) Costs between £7m and £12m

5) Unknown to 99% of football fans

6) Only wants £50k a week to play for Arsenal

Well that wraps it up.....Grimandi.......where's your shitlist...............sorry I meant hitlist

No, I was right first time! :banghead:

And the checklist for players we nearly signed

1. Went on to win the European Cup on at least one occasion

2. Turned down the offer of a trial involving meaningless pre season friendlies in Austria

3. Could have earned the club £50m+ in transfer fees once eventually sold

4. Hasn't got the personality of a starstruck schoolboy believing earning 50k per week at Arsenal to be the pinnacle of their career

5. International icon

He's a fucking beast but unfortunately perma-crocked, as you say. He'd also want city-esque wages so don't see it happening.
