Andy Linighan

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I remember him scoring the goal to win the cup. Last minute of extra time, at the Sheff Wed end of Wembley. They didn't sell their full allocation, the result of it being their 4th (I think) trip to Wembley that season...

Even for Arsenal, tickets were easy to come by for that replayed cup final. Bit of a difference to these days.

Seem to remember that they went into the game as favourites what with having Waddle etc in their team. I also remember some knob at the BBC intimating that Arsenal had made a mistake in beating them in the League Cup Final a month or two before as if they were destined to win one each....

I read on a thread here, sometime ago, that Linighan gobbed off about Cockney's. I think that he got filled in for his troubles, (Tuesday club?)
What else would you expect from someone from Hartlepool? Next to Hull and Oldham that place is shite.

He did well when covering TA in '91. And scored a winning goal in a cup final. He's not underated, that just about sums up his Arsenal career accurately.

Loved the 1993 season 8)

Linighan's broken hooter, Morrow's broken arm (Thanks Tone! ), Merson's celebration, a hand full of cup final's, extra time and the threat of penalties, winners from unlikely sources, and a cup double! :barscarf:

Agreed. Still not quite sure what happened to Mersons shot for the first goal in the League Cup final, he hit it hard yet it seemed to float in :? and was a strange feeling after the game when Morrow was laying flat out, heard rumours amongst the fans he'd had a heart attack :? Was the days before everyone had mobiles so had to wait till i got home to find out what happened

I always say Morrow was underrated.
Not a player who would have made the Invincibles line up of course, but a consistent player who could mark someone out of the game as a defensive midfielder, in my eyes preferable to Hillier, McGoldrick or Carter, and I say it honestly that he would be more useful than a Denilson or Diaby.

No way he would be better than diaby - he doesnt have the intelligence, grace, passing ability or durability that diaby has  (steve o and hlebby will be after your blood now quartz
