Emirates Cup 2013/Galatasary and Trouble at Overseas Games

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I go into loads of Turkish owned local shops with Galatasaray, Besiktas or Fener colours up
my main thought was it would be cool for them...

definitely!but why not invite fener or besiktas and avoid the controversy?

surely someone at the club would have sat there and thought "wait a minute, this won't do our PR any favours"...oh wait, this is arsenal

I'm sure the majority of Galatasaray fans - particularly those living here - are perfectly good people who know how to behave themselves at football games. For years on the way back from games we stopped at a chippy run by some great blokes who were Galatasaray-mad.

But it doesn't change the fact that to many it seems needlessly disrespectful to invite them to play in the tournament.

and that unfortunately is the problem with the club at the moment. i don't have any problem with gala fans here, it's just needless for this to happen. there are thousands of teams in europe, there's only a handful to stay away from. still, this is Arsenal v2

Club would be well aware of whom they have invited, be very surprised if Wenger did not have the veto on which teams are invited.

Guess it is club's attempt to build bridges?

a finger to the arsenal fans if ever I've seen one.

Surely this a good invitation. 3 of the last 8 clubs left in champions league. After the complaints of hamburg, PSG and new York red bulls, 3 top quality teams seems logical. It seems what ever the club does is wrong in the eyes of some fans. Anyway, might be the only time we play clubs like this for a couple of years.
