Emirates Cup 2013/Galatasary and Trouble at Overseas Games

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

How?  Well he decided to award new contracts willy-nilly and pursue a socialist wage policy where even the shit players got way too much money, rather than spend some of that budget on rewarding our better players and getting new ones in - especially 2 or 3 years ago when supplementing our squad would most likely have brought a return in a trophy or two.

Also, if you are going to keep banging on about our wage bill being the 4th highest so we shouldn't expect to be finishing above that, then how does it explain Spurs finishing only 1 point behind in the past couple of seasons despite spending £1m per week less then us - and that was due more to them throwing it away than us showing our class? Or United winning the league despite spending less than Chelsea and City? :rubchin: :banghead:

we have a higher wage bill than Sperz and finish above them...
seems you're offering evidence to prove my point?
it was this
I Hate Hleb wrote:[he does decide how to spend it and on that basis he has fallen well short over the past few years.
that I was quibbling with
specifically the "well short". Finishing exactly where your wage bill indicates is not well short. I think ManUre beat the odds last season because Fergie's a genius (and because the Oiligarchs selfdestructed)
I want our manager to help us out perform the wagebill table - it's possible two seasons ago Girard and Klopp did it
it's just very difficult - this season Bayern and PSG cruised home
finishing where the wage bill predicts you'll finish can never reasonably be described as 'well short'

please don't edit this just because you're wrong Hlebby :barscarf:  :box:

Err... I don't think so because if your basic point that 'wages spent means outcome' was right, Man United wouldn't have finished above City and Chelsea last season / or the latter club 6 times out of the last 7 years despite spending less!!

'Fell well short' in the sense that he hasn't utilised all the money available, or done it well enough to enable us to get anything beyond the seemingly pyrrhic victory of a Top 4 finish.

This is now way off topic guys. I think you'll find at least 2373 other threads for that conversation!

wages spent simply does indicate the most 'likely outcome' - thats almost beyond dispute isn't it??
There are exceptions, extenuating circumstances and managerial successes, I mentioned BVB and Montpellier as management wins, Citeh and Chelski have spent quickly to try and catch up
last season I'm willing to give SirMeatface credit for ManUres outperformance, despite the fact the oiligarchs imploded
the season before ManUre were given pretty much every away win by refs, and again Chelski self-destructed
SlurAlex is a genius of a manager, maybe the best ever
but in the majority of his Prem wins, his club has had the highest wage bill
delivering par is no mean feat - well done

'falling well short' has a pretty clear meaning
it ain't wot u just said...

So does the 'Alan Smith hates Arsenal' comments that you've made on more than one occasion have a clear meaning as well? :rubchin: :rubchin:

dude - when I qualified that statement you edited it!!!

I think Smudger is specifically down on the current regime and is excessively negative
IMO this is partially routed in bitterness about how his Arsenal career ended

Only because I pulled you up over it and after having already made similar claims a few times before!!! And I told you before: it was an unintended mistake. I feel bad enough as it is - so as my girlfriend says to me whenever I try to ‎surreptitiously stick my knob into her: stop rubbing it in!!
