SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

This from a club that are so tight arsed when it comes to buying players it goes way beyond the point of embarassing     We are not gonna get rid of this caaant - the only club showing any interest in signing the donkey and we feel that we should screw them on the deal
On a seperate issue about this deal it does worry me that they are trying to include a striker in the deal - we allowed celta vigo to do that a few years ago in the silvinho deal and we had to endure a number of years watching the c.unt that is almunia in goals as a result :banghead: :banghead:

A number of papers this morning have resurrected the cesar to Arsenal rumours - I'm not sure why cos there are no quotes from either club and nothing seems to have changed about the situation :?
don't understand why you're upset Augs - you find any haggling embarrassing?
I, like you, want us to sell Gervinho. It looks like we will. We should get as much as possible for him.
Especially if we're going to be overpaying for Bernard.

BTW Pablo Osvaldo is a decent striker but another nutter - punched a team mate, went mental at his coach for being benched in the cup final, boycotted end of season awards...
he's also very handsome - him and Giroud would be the most devastatingly sexy strikeforce in the Prem.
Maybe the world :barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf:

Jd, I find it embarrassing that we are trying to screw roma out of a few extra bob for a player that is so so bad that he makes wally walcott look like a cross between messi, pele and maradona - christ I think we would be lucky to give the c.unt away in a christmas cracker

Have to say that I find it very interesting to hear that we are linked with a player that has punched one of his former coaches - surely it would be a possibility, that if we slipped him a few extra quid, he would be willing to execute our current manager ? From what I hear, south american hit men are the leaders in their field    :barscarf:

RealMadrid could easily change their minds couldn't they?
They could.

I think many fans were confident of signing Higuain after Juventus siged Tevez, yet another deal (Cavani) enabled Napoli to come in and the price appears to have risen from there.

Anyway, who know's. I'm sick of trying to second guess everything :( - bring on September and all the answers! :barscarf:

<facepalm> g88ner.

Join the dots mate. No need to wait until September.
Suarez ain't gonna be ours (fucking good), just the same with Higuain, Rooney et al.
Like I said, too many times now, Gooners are being played again.

More chance of Bendtner being part exchanged with Messi than Wenger making the signings we require.

So that's a Copa Libertadores winners medal with his club to add to the Confederations Cup winners medal he won with Brazil. Not a bad summer for our new signing.

he hasnt even signed yet...

id rather spend the money on someting we really need.

Mate, you're no better at joining the dots than I am. If you are, please tell me who we WILL sign rather than who we won't!

Whatever way you look at it, there is a need to wait until September because regardless of whether Suarez comes or not (and I don't think he will), we're going to spend some money at some point in the next month or so, and it's more a matter of WHO than anything else. Hell, even in our darkest transfer windows, we still bought players and I don't expect that to change now.

So my stance hasn't changed... bring on September and all the answers! 8)

I don't get the 'we don't want Suarez' brigade at all? :rubchin:

He is one of the top 5, possibly 3, strikers in the world. Yes he's an odious little shit, but he's a winner, he's world class, and he scores lots of goals wherever he goes. He wins games single handedly, just as RVP did and Thierry Henry before him. There aren't many players in the PL who turn games single handedly.....Suarez is one of them. He would be a fantastic signing for us, yes there are risks with his temperament but isn't it often the case that a genius at their work is a bit fucked up in other areas?? Sign Suarez, along with a couple of very decent players and Arsenal will be pushing the top three much closer, who knows, we could even put in a decent challenge for the title for the first time in years. If we don't sign Suarez, there's fuck all else available now who is real quality. There's a reason Arsenal have cleared a lot of dead wood and are looking to offload Gervinho and Bendtner as well as those who have already gone. It will all add up to about 25m saved this year so buying Suarez isn't the big financial outlay some think it is.
The biggest worry for me is that even if Suarez comes in, we will only sign Cesar to challenge Chezza.
If we just pushed the boat out big style, just for once......and sign Suarez, Fellaini, Cesar and lets say Williams......I think even the biggest WOB's (like me) would be looking forward to the season coming. :barscarf:

I can understand it, even if I don't agree.

Some people (quite admirably) think it's morally wrong to bring in someone who has been banned for racism, and other less serious but still unsavory incidents. I can respect that.

Some people also believe it's a lot of money to spend on a player who (a) is likely to get into further hot water as he appears to be out of control, and (b) will do what he's done to Liverpool and try to engineer a move away from Arsenal sooner or later.

And some, quite reasonably, are concerned that blowing £40-50m is likely to see us neglect other areas of the team that also desperately need to be addressed.

All of the above are reasonable arguments, so I do get the 'we don't want Suarez' brigade, but for me he's a game changer; a match winner who can propel us to another level. I'm also a very forgiving person, and believe his behaviour can be kept in check with a bit more maturity, education and the right environment, and shouldn't be cast into the streets just because he's too much trouble... I'm sure there's a word for gullible, overly trusting people like me though

Ashley Williams is an absolute carthorse who lacks a football brain. Imo a poor man's Vermaelen - heart on his sleeve and all that but a rash decision-maker and gets drawn out of position far too easily.

Take him out of a popular underdog side and put him in a big club and watch him get slammed weekly on MOTD as the pundits stop praising him diving in to make all these blocks and start asking why he has to do so and highlighting the times that he can't get back.
