Haven't been able to replicate that level of transfer market success for some time.
oh I don't know,he bought gervinho for 10m and sold him for 8
Exactly, virtually all of the players being mentioned are from 10+ years ago when Wanger's methods were still relatively new and knowledge of French footy in particular was probably unrivalled. Football has moved on miles since then and Wanger is still standing in the same place and those old methods are now seriously out of date and no longer work whatsoever!! Most big clubs now have great scouts in place, often ex-top players from the country in question who know plenty. Wanger just hasn't got anything different to offer any more and is such a dinosaur that he is stuck trying to play 1990's football in 2013. IT DOESN'T WORK!!!
2009-2012 - RVP
Bearing in mind until his last season with us RVP was injured for more or less a third to half a season each year, it wasn't great management having just one decent striker!!
Wangers successes are virtually all from years ago and we'll sound just like Liverpool fans if all we do is hark back to the good old days of decent signings.......10-15 years ago!!

Have to say, getting £8M for Gerv is actually a piece of genius
TeeCee do you not rate Cazorla? Personally love watching him play.
Think he's right up there as a recent signing.

Only you can turn a shortfall/loss of 3/4 million into a ''piece of genius'' don't you ever criticise Wenger? Signing this piece of useless shit in the first place probably, in part, stunted the devleopment of The Ox....

55 games???:
38 league, 15 Champions League (inc 2 vs fenerbahce and then all the way to the final) then 3rd round of both FA and League Cup!!
is Wenger discounting the 2 domestic cups already??
I reckon he just plucked a number at random.
Then again, perhaps he's planned for 38 league games, 2 CL qualifiers, 6 CL group games, 2 CL knockout games before being knocked out, and semi finals in both cups? - that must be about 55 and would allow us to keep Groundhog FC on an even keel by qualifying for the CL and winning naff all?!

Alternatively he could be counting on an exit in the CL qualifier but then for us to go on and do a Cup double to satisfy all those critics that want a trophy !!!
"I think the fans will be very happy with our transfer"
Out stepped Silvestri..
I thought of this the other day when Wenger told us Sanogo would ''surprise us'' because the last time I remember him saying he had a surprise for us it turned out to be Silvestre.
That summer of 2009 when the window closed, was when I first wanted Wenger out. I thought he deserved a year to rectify the mess he made in 2008 but he made things worse. And 4 summers later ...
Management is about forward planning right? It would be seen as a key skill right?
So why are we 5 days away from the opening game, our manager has released 14 players (between loans and sales/releases) and signed 1 kid and maybe 1 other kid?
Even if we do now go all out in a last day panic and sign 3 or 4 actual adult footballers, can we really expect them to have anything like an immediate impact with no preseason learning to work with their new team mates and our "system" (for the all the fucking use THAT is)??
even if there's a financial logic to not paying extra wages all summer
even if we can win our early season games with the existing squad
even if good players link up straight away and the necessity of time is exaggerated
even if every club's pre-season fitness work is pretty much the same
this has been an unsuccessful window - football clubs are funded by fans (should be run for fans but that's a different subject)
this transfer window has pissed off our fans. Yes results are ultimately all that matters
but the fans can def influence that
and being moody won't help

Sorry no - if you are negating those elements of pre-season as not being that important to the overall season (which is implied by your tone) then that is totally incorrect. Pre-season is absolutely vital. That is why clubs HAVE a pre-season.
Financial logic? An extra 2 months of wages for 3 or 4 new players means NOTHING at the level we operate at. Paying 8 or 9 shit players over the odds for shit return for 4 or 5 YEARS and giving them undeserved and unearned pay rises year after year - THAT'S where financial logic needs to come in!
Good players, even the best players don't always link up straight away and land on their feet. Most players need settling in time and time to feel part of the team and learn new methods etc. Their Psychological state of mind is important.
Not every club's preseason fitness work is "pretty much the same". Many players have commented on the huge differences in pre-season training when they move club. But to assume pre-season is ONLY about fitness is wrong too. It's also about bedding players into their role in the team and the system. And it's about getting them settled with new people, new methods and (often) life in a new city.

Have to agree with Mr Bergkamp here, our pre-season has been an absolute shambles. We have one signing - a double leg break Ligue 2 striker who was on the verge of retirement and have missed out on a top striker (higuain) as we thought we could fuck the bin dippers over for Hannibal. In all likelyhood we will miss out on him too.
It is, frankly, bordering on outright stupidity that we have again decided to shop at the arse end of the transfer window as prices will fo up, not down.
Our whole model just pisses me off - qualify to qualify for the Chumps League, but then don't conduct any positive business until we are assured of our place. Meanwhile every other major club (and Spuds) seem to get their business done nice and early.
The margin for error here is very, very slim and we have gotten away with doing it this way thus far but it surely cannot be allowed to continue.

Is it too early for a "Wenger Out" post? Just want to get warmed up for the new season!
the 'ifs' are me attempting to guess/understand why the signings have not come in
I don't agree with it - I believed January was the time to go hard in the transfer market FFS
