Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
How anyone can still think he should be manager of Arsenal Football Club is beyond me but for those of you that do please refer to the following IMMEDIATELY -

Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
I don't feel I need to put forward a defence of the transfer window becuase I have never said I think everything he does is correct or wonderful. This is a 'for or against Arsene Wenger' thread and I remain of the conviction that he has been good for us and in ten years (in fact 9 now I guess as I was saying 10 last season) I believe we will still be one of the top teams and will have accumulated a number of trophies. I have been consistent with this thought throughout. I am very unlikely to change my mind on that over one 'off season' of three months, whatever happens in that three months.northbank123 wrote:Quite interested to hear you put forward any sort of defence for this transfer window?Steve_I wrote:Still for him
I imagine you'll offer some polite condemnation of our failure to act once it closes, but this will be forgotten when we scrape into 4th in May (ignoring the fact that a manager that didn't treat the club's money like his own life savings would have gone out and strengthened the squad - possibly to an extent where we could challenge for trophies).
I of course hope to see us sign new players as we have done every year in one window or the other. I believe that the club are trying but also that to buy for the sake of buying would be wrong. I feel that the only people who have told me that it is a bad thing we haven't bought yet and haven't got this player/that player/this or that position covered are people of little consequence - namely folk on the internetz who's self perpetuating and increasing anxiety is all too easily contagious and also, in many ways, misplaced because it's a handy stick with which to beat our manager.(my opinion of course and not one shared I guess by many here)
I Certainly think our core squad is strong but should also be supplemented by the addition of some good players in the certain positions and, as I've said, do not beleieve that the club aren't trying to do that.
Arsene 'may' not know best, but he definitely knows better than I do and I remain happy with that and, I feel, will do so for the foreseeable future.
Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
I have lost all respect for this man. I admired him for what he's done in first 8 years, but how he screwed up everything since then and still has the courage to stand proudly (or kind of godlike) week by week at the Grove is beyond me.
If he was a real man, he would resign in 2008 and stop destroying our club. Now it's already waaay to late.
With every year more and more people will remember his name by "x years trophyless" rather than the Invicibles season and 11 trophies.
I used to watch Arsenal to relax myself from everday's worries, to let go everything for those 90 minutes and enjoy that brilliance from our boys... But lately, I like to go to work so I can relax from all this anger Wenker is giving me!
JUST LEAVE!

Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
Yes, good post Steve (even if I disagree with much of it)
As frustrated (and worried) as I am, I still maintain that this window is neither a success nor failure until the window closes and we can assess the state of our squad relative to the one that finished last season and relative to our rivals. Until then, it's difficult to judge as clubs do business at different times, which skews any comparison.
The only caveat to that is that the season starts with a pocket of fixtures before the window shuts (Villa (h), Fenerbache (a), Fulham (a), Fenerbache (h) and Sp*rs (h) ) that could heavily impact on our season. If the results are poor, then regardless of who we eventually bring in, we may be playing catch up and - worst case - out the CL.
Wenger's taking a huge gamble on our season by leaving things so late, but we'll have the full picture on September 2nd.

In fairness, I think that works both ways. There's a fair amount of fans who are, in my opinion, blinded by their hate for Wenger and/or our current set up that they fail to see any good in the club.rodders999 wrote:The mantra of the AKB - "There Are None So Blind As Those Who Will Not See".

I would allow Wenger the whole season, don't believe in mid-season managerial changes
but we all want us to invest and challenge
in a way without any investment, I'd have higher minimum expectations
(as frustrating as that would be)

How stupid of me to think it was the manager's remit to prepare the team for the start of the season, not the end of the transfer window.

Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
Can't you just for once stop digging me fucking out.... Why should I continually back the players when they're been purchased by Wenger and are shown to be just as gutless and a loser just like Wenger. I've continually backed the club with season ticket purchases, I'm a share holder, going further back I was a bond holder, I've had enough... as I've said before, fuck 'em, I'm not giving them any further support until the *word censored* that is Wenger has gone. (and being an Arsenal fan since 1976 this makes me not only sad but very mad) (I will still meet up with mates and go over there but my enjoyment of Arsenal winning is only going to another step in giving this madman a contract renewal)g88ner wrote:In fairness, I think that works both ways. You also said yesterday, but I can't find the post, why I posted.... What's the point in finishing 4th... etc.... well what is the point if Wenger is only going to wait until the qualifers to see whether we've progressed, when he should be strengthening beforehand so we'll have more of a chance of getting through with a bettter team. As HighburyJD said we should be at least going for 3rd place if he's that scared of not progressing.
Anyway, bollocks!!!!
