the spuds always overspend and achieve little, its their way. they're a cup team with overly ambitious expectations.
for them to be considered anywhere near the title is laughable, as it has been to decades.
that said, I like Vertonghen. he's too good for them - as vand der faaart was.
Bale is quality, but then he often goes missing in big games (must be a southampton thing...)
the only swap i'd make is wanger for AVB. yes. things are that bad.
AVB uses tactics, prepares for set peices and makes half time substitutions if he needs to, and whilst not a top manager he is relatively competant and probably not senile.
& for the benefit of JD, that spuds team had Lineker, Gascioigne, Mabbutt, Durie and Terry Fenwick, and despite being managed by Venables, was still outshone by us every year in the league

A Southampton thing? Feo is at his best in big games.
Re: best Sperz squad I've ever seen
Gustavo wants 1st team assurances and he's getting £115k a week at Wolfsburg, not £150k.
I really don't get the fuzz people make about him, he's average as they come. His passing is not very good and he can offer little beyond marking. Do we need a holding midfielder? Of course we do! Is he the only answer? no, I'm sure there are a handful of players that could do his job.
What we do need is a player that would come and boss the postition, as sami Khedira, who wants out of Madrid. But it's Wenger so we're getting the mighty Flamini, at fucking best.
Spurs have loads of very overrated players, Sandro could never get ahead of lucas fucking Leiva for NT call ups and when blew his acl suddelny he became a great enforcer? oh c'mon.
Paulinho will add a lot to their game, he's a good box to box player. But he made his name in a very slow league where he had the time to pass the ball to a winger and slowly get himself into position. When Corinthians tried a fast break game, he couldn't offer them their last third product and had a mare of a string of games. He''ll be consistently dangerous in the air, tho.
Soldado is better then Giroud, but that shouldn't tell you much. He's a finisher and needs service. Who provides that for spurz?

He's very average, imo. He shone in the confederations cup for Brazil and that's why brazilians tend to rate him ( since he never played in Brazil , he was unheard of). I've seen him for 3 seasons now in the Bundesliga and whilst he did good for Hoffenheim he never added much to Bayern's side. You might say Poldi was the same but then again I don't think podolski fits our system quite well...officepest wrote:Good post mate, so Gustavo isn't all that good?RioGooner wrote:Gustavo wants 1st team assurances and he's getting £115k a week at Wolfsburg, not £150k.

Is this post just intended to make us all feel better? I'd take any of Gustavo, Sandro or Paulinho. All would improve us which is the point.RioGooner wrote:Gustavo wants 1st team assurances and he's getting £115k a week at Wolfsburg, not £150k.

Re: best Sperz squad I've ever seen
Gustavo or Paulinho both would have provided an option in the defensive midfield role, which not only was thin, but is basically now empty with Arteta crocked for a few weeks.
Sp*rs look a strong side this year and AVB is a talented manager - you don't get to where he is, at his relatively young age, without being very, very good. Arsenal should have genuine cause for concern, and some pundits/reporters are even pegging them above us for a 4th place finish.
When you consider we beat them into the CL by 1 point, on the last day of the season, after a monumental 10 game final run-in, the two teams were very close last year. They've added millions of pounds of quality players. We have done nothing except sign Sanogo. That's scary.
There's only so long we can count on Sp*rs to keep failing, before we have to start simply performing better ourselves. And arguably, that starts by bringing in players to supplement a pretty thin squad.

They've been doing that for ages, even when we were clearly superior to the SpudsBarriecuda wrote: Arsenal should have genuine cause for concern, and some pundits/reporters are even pegging them above us for a 4th place finish.

Never been convinced with the scum's team. Full of average players with one or two above average.
I mean £28m on a 28 year old?
The only good signing is probably Paulinho.

Not saying he has a great record against top teams but it's not just 1 against Chelsea he's scored.clockender1 wrote:highburyJD wrote:A Southampton thing? Feo is at his best in big games.

He's scored against Chelsea in each of the last 3 seasons and United in the last two, as well as 2 against Spurs in 2011/12 and one in 2010/11 (not a top team but a huge game and a side we've got a poor record against considering our dominance and how rarely we win away).

if you look at his record - 90% of his goals are part of goal fests against lower level teams that play wide open - toon, southampton. etc. same for england. 5 goals in 34 (i looked it up) , 3 in a 5-1 thrashing of croatia.
very much like bale.
he's not your overmars or pires who in a tight game will nick you that 1-0 away at United or City or Everton. tis all...
