As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

It'll be just like the good old days, when injures ruin our season
Ah well, maybe they'll take advantage of the wage bill reduction and lower ticket prices.... yeah right.
Don't you know, we're keeping the money safe for January or next summer or the January and summer after that or the January and summer after that or the January and summer after that.
Reading that, it's utterly mind-boggling how we've spent the grand total of fuck all so far this summer, and are going into the season opener with just 11 fit players.
we are all entitled to opinions, but imo this opinion is moronic and/or wantonoly delushional
i will always give credit to someone that can present a lucid case for their position - I don't have to agree to be respectful. Your post on the otherhand......moronic? says more about you than I.

swifty im referring to the op's post as being moronic, not urs, i was assuming you were being sarcastic.
the op doesn't feel the need to mount a defence on why he thinks aw is still best for the club, he states it often, but when challenged he says he has no need to mount a defence, he always does it.
the simple reason is he can't mount a defence and that is why he refuses to justify his continued belief in those in charge. now that all evidence points to the contrary and even the media are now reporting the madness at the club, the akb argument is now not to have to justify their beleifs...or that even though things need changing, we the fan should shut up and back the team. he latter is plain stupid and the former (having faith in those in charge but refusing to put forward a valid and cohesive reason why) is ridiculous.
that is why im throwing the moronic claims about at him. not you.

As frustrated (and worried) as I am, I still maintain that this window is neither a success nor failure until the window closes and we can assess the state of our squad relative to the one that finished last season and relative to our rivals. Until then, it's difficult to judge as clubs do business at different times, which skews any comparison.
The only caveat to that is that the season starts with a pocket of fixtures before the window shuts (Villa (h), Fenerbache (a), Fulham (a), Fenerbache (h) and Sp*rs (h) ) that could heavily impact on our season. If the results are poor, then regardless of who we eventually bring in, we may be playing catch up and - worst case - out the CL.
Wenger's taking a huge gamble on our season by leaving things so late, but we'll have the full picture on September 2nd.
Cheers.
I appreciate your 'caveat' completely and personally feel we are definitely vulnerable to injury regarding obvious replacements if they should prove necessary. I admit I will be only too happy to sigh a bloody big sigh of relief if we have added significantly come Sept 2nd to create that much need cushion/depth which we do not have at present. We had it in numbers but not quality last year and previous ones but it is more apparent now we have been stripped of some/most of the 'poorer quality' chunk of our squad.
The signings will come, I'm sure. None of us know whats going on behind the scenes.
I'm not the biggest Wenger supporter, but judge him when the windows closed.
Roll on sat.
yep thats the spirit, judge him once the windows closed, then the jan one, then next summers...lets not worry about getting these signings intergrated or fit before the season starts, lets not worry that we will have played some key games by the time the window shuts...jeez, whats with this willful amnesia amongst arsenal fans.
anybody who still defends Lord Wenker is as mad as he is,you need treatment badly!!!as said before its just like the emporers new clothes, only thing is more and more people can actually now see Wenker standing there bollocko!!!although clearly to the deluded he is wearing the finest Armani suit that money can buy,COS HE TOLD YOU SO!!WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE FFS!!!!
Quite interested to hear you put forward any sort of defence for this transfer window?
I imagine you'll offer some polite condemnation of our failure to act once it closes, but this will be forgotten when we scrape into 4th in May (ignoring the fact that a manager that didn't treat the club's money like his own life savings would have gone out and strengthened the squad - possibly to an extent where we could challenge for trophies).
I don't feel I need to put forward a defence of the transfer window becuase I have never said I think everything he does is correct or wonderful. This is a 'for or against Arsene Wenger' thread and I remain of the conviction that he has been good for us and in ten years (in fact 9 now I guess as I was saying 10 last season) I believe we will still be one of the top teams and will have accumulated a number of trophies. I have been consistent with this thought throughout. I am very unlikely to change my mind on that over one 'off season' of three months, whatever happens in that three months.
I of course hope to see us sign new players as we have done every year in one window or the other. I believe that the club are trying but also that to buy for the sake of buying would be wrong. I feel that the only people who have told me that it is a bad thing we haven't bought yet and haven't got this player/that player/this or that position covered are people of little consequence - namely folk on the internetz who's self perpetuating and increasing anxiety is all too easily contagious and also, in many ways, misplaced because it's a handy stick with which to beat our manager.(my opinion of course and not one shared I guess by many here)
I Certainly think our core squad is strong but should also be supplemented by the addition of some good players in the certain positions and, as I've said, do not beleieve that the club aren't trying to do that.
Arsene 'may' not know best, but he definitely knows better than I do and I remain happy with that and, I feel, will do so for the foreseeable future.
Steve - agree or disagree, that post is class.
i trust u are taking the p, otherwise your as moronic as the op.

I'm not necessarily expecting you to change your view based on one window - but obviously given your overall support you haven't been too disappointed with Wenger's transfer policy in the past few years so I'm wondering just what more he can do to change your opinion on that?
It's hardly just people on internet forums that are saying it's a bad thing we haven't bought - fans of just about every club are saying it and just about every media outlet who reports on a transfer story to do with us comments to that effect. In fact just about the only person who thinks that it's not a bad thing is Wenger - so judging by your comments his is the only opinion that matters to you.
And "buying for buying's sake" is a lazy excuse that can only be applied to one-off 'grass is greener' signings (like complaining we haven't signed Capoue etc). You can't use that line to justify supposedly not being able to find any players that we could sign to improve the squad. We've finished 19 points off the league winners the last two seasons and have been out of the title race halfway to Christmas (at best) so in the months since the season finished it's completely reasonable to expect us to have been able to sign any few of a vast number of realistically attainable targets who would have genuinely improved our squad. What Wenger has essentially been suggesting is that there has not been one player who we could have gotten at a remotely reasonable price to improve our squad - which just isn't true.

Erm, ok
Of all the posts I write on this forum, only a minute fraction are replying to you, so if you feel I'm somehow stalking your posts, you're mistaken mate.
Having said that, I'm currently in your back garden defiling your gnomes
Hmmm... that sounds like something Hashkads would say... anyway apology accepted (oh you haven't apologised)
Chippy wrote:Just start with the ones you'd really like to see at the Arsenal, who are sensibly available. Doubt if it's thousands, hundreds or even tens.
And then when you've made that list cross off all the players whose clubs aren't very keen on selling them (at a cheap price) late in the window with no chance to replace them. Also cross off any players who may provide competition to or 'kill' young players' futures.
But on a serious note Chippy is right - Wenger will start moaning that there aren't any players who can improve us available, and whilst there are certainly some the market is hardly awash with quality unless you're willing to pay well over the odds at this point.
If we can't manage to find players in the months since the season ended and now it's only natural to have no confidence in us managing to make a great signing from the ever-decreasing pool of players.
