The What Was The Point of Viviano Signing Thread
Re: Viviano Signs
Apparantly, he suffered a serious knee injury in 2011 and has struggled to regain the form he was in before the injury. He's the no.3 Italian goalkeeper. Sounds like we have got a top keeper to push Chesney. Pleased we have got an international goalie.

Re: Viviano Signs
why we didn't get Julio Cesar on loan for a season, is beyond me

Re: Viviano Signs
Is he number 2 to Szczesny or 3rd choice behind that clown Flappy? No one has said

Really baffled by this, feels like it's a nothing signing. Based on history I can't see Fabianski being dropped from his number 2 position, and this guy doesn't seem very convincing. As others have pointed out, why didn't we get Cesar is beyond me. Wages I suppose?
Re: Viviano Signs
Definitely number 2 at least. He's better than Flappy (not hard). Expect him to give Shezza a run for his money.donaldo wrote:Is he number 2 to Szczesny or 3rd choice behind that clown Flappy? No one has said

Odd situation with Cesar. On the one hand you have the ever-reliable genuine character that is Harry Redknapp claiming that nobody's even coming in for him, but I find the suggestion from a few journalists that his refusal to budge on his massive wage demands a bit more persuasive.Jonny_Gooner wrote:Really baffled by this, feels like it's a nothing signing. In any case I would have happily paid him good wages - we'd barely have paid a penny for him in fees and imo he would have been a great signing.
And seeing as I have to crowbar it into every post on our goalkeepers, we're going to regret letting Lloris go to the Scum (especially so cheap) for the next decade.

Re: Viviano Signs
We should have signed Cesar...But that would then have been a straight battle for the No1 Gk position - fine by me - as I don't think shez is good enough to hold the no1 GK spot for the whole season....
Also Shez and flappy may have learnt a great deal from a superior and more experienced Kepper....But Wenger's thinking is as usual - he doesn't want to kill Shez/flappy etc...well f*ck that...it's no longer play Mr Nice it is whoever is the best gets the job! end of.

Re: Viviano Signs
I think scez seems to be coming of age this season, a match winning save on Sunday and very important one at a crucial time against Fulham.
We do need decent cover, so I hope this new guy can provide that.

Re: Viviano Signs
For me Chesney is that old goalie cliche; a good shot stopper. He's agile and can make great last ditch saves at times but that's not enough to be a top keeper. He doesn't command his area, he flaps too often at crosses and he gets involved too often in the silly shit at set pieces. He is a good keeper and might get better, but for me he is not a great keeper and should be 2nd to a world class keeper.goonersid wrote:I think scez seems to be coming of age this season, a match winning save on Sunday and very important one at a crucial time against Fulham.

Why Cesar is rotting on QPR's bench in the championship is even more baffling. What's going on there?Rosie_titters wrote:why we didn't get Julio Cesar on loan for a season, is beyond me![]()
Re: Viviano Signs
Thing is there aren't too many about, I think commanding his area will come with age and experience (he will have learned from his awful showing in the euros) and tbf he has looked better in that dept so far this season.DB10GOONER wrote:For me Chesney is that old goalie cliche; a good shot stopper. I doubt there was anybody who wouldn't have taken Joe Hart a few seasons back, but I wouldn't swap scez for him now.

A ridiculous nonsensical signing - is wenker bringing in a genuine competitor for chesney's number 1 position in the hope that it might help raise chesney's game ? Is it more likely that he is brought in to be back up to the back up ? Why would the 3rd choice italian keeper come here to be 3rd choice behind our poles ? Why would arsole sign an international keeper if he didnt want him to challenge for the number 1 spot ? Would flaps accept it if the italian was instilled above him in the pecking order ? If wenker wanted a challenger to chesney then why not cesar ? Is he prioritising cheaper wages over ability and quality ? If that is the case then doesnt that make a mockery of the notion that signing ozil is going to spark a bright new dawn for AFC ?

Maybe we will get a clearer picture next week when we see who is on the bench v the mackems but this signing for me raises more questions than answers

He 'ad words' with the twitching crunt...and then to top it all had the audacity to lean out of his car window on transfer closing night and give an interview!
