2006 FA Cup 3rd round game, lunchtime kick-off at Highbury. Think it was an uninspired 2-1 win and a Cardiff-supporting mate asked me on the Monday "is it always that fucking quiet there?"

Another dire game, 2009 FA Cup 0-0 away. Gave them a bit of a caning in the replay with Eduardo scoring a class goal on his comeback although I remember more being sat upstairs in Phibbers before the match and seeing riot vans screaming down Holloway Road every 30 seconds. Later saw on BBC local news that a Cardiff fan was done for racially-aggravated assault in Phibbers that night as he gave a bloke an unprovoked pasting in the bogs for being English - not realising that the bloke was actually a Cardiff fan.

Yep I remember the home one - think I was in the family enclosure at the front of the old West Stand. Jerome scored for them near the end and it was last season at the old place when we wore the 'redcurrant' (still love that shirt and has stood up to many a gym workout where others have failed :D )

I have a vague recollection that comedy Eboue might have debuted that day but could have that wrong. Either way he was fucking useless then as well !

Yeah, I remember their lot ripped loads of wing mirrors off cars down my old road in Finsbury Park and keyed any vehicle they could lay their filthy hands on.

Remember going down there in 1980 for a 0 0 in the cup. Can't remember any details of the match. Also played them in thre League Cup in 1982 over two legs. Only about 15000 for the home game.

it wasn't our Game, but i remember once travelling round from Kings Cross to Paddington one afternoon (2002 ?) and there were small groups of Cardiff hoolies all over the place heading up to the swamp dwellers ahead of a fizzy pop cup game.

it was obvious who they were cos they all had no colours on, looked like they were from out of Town and were in groups or 7 or 8, so we just wished them well and said we hoped they battered them.

on the pitch i think they lost. off it, the spuds superfirm got ran all over the cesspits hours before the game had even started by about 5-600 of them. LOL.

always liked Cardiff since then, and never had a problem with drinking in Cardiff (or Swansea) city centres - after one of the Cup Finals we accidentally rolled into one of Cardiff's home pubs, and they didn't mind too much as they really really hate Man U more than anyone else in England, and we were taking titles and points off them then and they liked the way we played too.

It was weird in those days, going to places like Cardiff, Portsmouth and Bristol etc and their fans telling you how much they enjoyed Henry and Bergkamp instead of battering you...

league cup '82 at ninian park. brother went, i was much too young for an away match, I think it was the 2nd round of the league cup and it was a crazy night according to him. Remember hearing how ninian park was a shithole and their fans would target any english on matchday so I would be grateful I didn't go, must have been a hairy one

Agreed - with the exception of the Mickeys robbing us, I have nothing but fond memories of Cardiff. Was there for both the 2003 and 2005 FA Cup Finals and had a fantastic time....unlike shitty Wembley with barely a bar or restaurant worthy of the name within walking distance and where everyone still shuffles towards the same fucking tube station for an hour

Should play the semis at Cardiff at least - loved going down there

Think that's a good idea. Helps preserve what sanctity Wembley has left after whoring itself out to NFL and moreover hosting plodders like Tom Cleverley and Gareth Barry in England shirts every few months but most of all a fucking good day out.

Think due to the scarcity of Cardiff v Arsenal matches we can legitimately extend this thread to any games in Cardiff :barscarf:

I was lucky enough to go to all the finals and they were all cracking days. The 2001 final was obviously gutting and I still can't quite believe we lost it but I remember some great banter flying round with Liverpool fans, every time they got a bit mouthy someone would pipe up with the old "one minute" and put them back in their box.

My abiding memory of the 2002 final will be of tens of thousands of people around town with red stripes sprayed in their hair (yes I was one  ) in honour of Ljungberg who was showing unbelievable form to carry us to the PL title. As a game that stands out as the best for the way we won it alone!

The Southampton final was a nervy match but it was again a great atmosphere around and most of their fans were sound. I'll never forget the look on the bloke's face when an elderly Southampton fan I was talking to outside the pub before said "I saw us in the FA Cup Final nearly 30 years ago and I can't believe I've got the chance to see it again" to which I, as a cheeky 13-year old, replied "it's my fourth"

The 2005 game was the worst atmosphere around the city purely because United fans have no banter at all. Complete bunch of wankers and it made it all the sweeter when we fucking robbed a victory despite getting battered all game. I also went to the semi-final against Blackburn (since forgiven Todd for knocking out van Judas stone cold  ) and remember my dad's mates somehow fuck up a sure thing with a Geordie woman who was down for their game against United the next day.

Same here - really enjoyed the Liverpool cup final, till the final 5 mins, it was a hot sunny day, saw Lisa Rogers outside on the grass and had some corporate hospitality after, with a replica of the cup which would have been great had we chuffing won it !!

The occasion at Cardiff is so much better than Wembley :barscarf:

assuming folk don't google their memories, how on earth do people remember games and incidents so clearly at times? I know one meets folk who can say, in response to a comment about a specific team... "oh yeah I remember that and xxxx did such and such to thingummybob and scored in the 73rd minute with a freak whatsit" and it's clear that people do recall such things but if i'm brutally honest I have to think really hard just to go through this seasons games and then, if I'm honest again, I have to have a quick peek online to remind me.

There are clearly the odd game that I recall and they tend to be ones that everyone recalls and perhaps the odd one that's specific to me in terms of 'first game' 'game I had toothache at' etc.

is it jsut me that nods wisely at times when people go into a dialogue about such and such in nineteencanteen when I actually can't remember at all?

Hats off to folks recall! :

I've always had a good memory I guess, especially when it comes to football matches. If you were to ask about a certain game in a certain year I'd immediately think of the kit we'd be wearing and if that didn't bring it back I'd probably remember it by reference to some other significance.

I find it impressive when folk remember such things but sit there hoping I'm not the only one who can't do it. :)

Sadly had to watch the cups on TV

Went to Ninian Park in the early 1980s for an evening match- was living in Cardiff at the time. Afraid I cant remember who Cardiff were playing. It was my one and only time there.

Only memories were the amount of plods around, how little hair their fans had. But for the match it was brilliant in that their terrace was so empty and ran the length of the main stand. The place was so quiet that my mate and I spent the night running up and down keeping up with play. It wasnt a good match but was prettty knackered by the end of it :D
