Of course a non-oligarch owned club can compete. Ask Manure.
It takes ambition, astute management and luck. We haven't had any of those for a while.

Not sure I ever heard the meerkats say "if we spend 30m we become first team in world to go bankrupt with 100m cash reserves" SIMPLESafcforever wrote:Stevo, has the meerkats would say, we can't compete with the sugar daddy, SIMPLESSteveO 35 wrote:Fantastic - right on the button.afcforever wrote:The only reason we wont win the title, citys sugar daddy. Man City and Chelsea= nobodys
Financial Fair Play isn't coming
Take it a step further and please write to our lord and master and persuade him that the future is in free transfers and loan signings because we all know there is absolutely no middle ground whatsoever....you're either City and Chelsea or you're>>>>
Have you ever heard the phrase "shades of grey" ?

they didn't have the money in 2003-2004 when we took them lot on our books. City's windfall began in 2008.afcforever wrote:And don't forget it would be city who would of had them sort of players without the sugar daddyclockender1 wrote:not true. our lack of tactics, preparation, medical care, failure to learn from past mistakes and flexibility is why we won't win it.afcforever wrote:The only reason we wont win the title, citys sugar daddy.
United have always had more money than us but we won the title in 98,02 and 04....
and don't forget that we are the club that had bentdner, djourou, diaby and denilson on our books for almost 10 years each.

Err so how do you explain us not beating little old Southampton - who we've nicked 2 of their better players over the last few years ?
We to them are the big bad wolf, we paid £42m for 1 player, yet we didn't possess the tactics to beat them and were on balance fairly lucky to get a draw after being outplayed for much of the game.
Last few seasons Blackburn, Bradford, Birmingham, Ipswich, Leyton fucking Orient, have made us (Wenker) and his lack of tactics and ability to play in a different style depending on opponents look very ordinary.

Nobody's saying we're on a level footing with the likes of City - clearly we're not. But we are a phenomenally rich side that: a) has seriously underinvested in the playing staff in the last decade, and b) has pissed away a considerable portion of the money that has been spent on transfers and wages in that time.
Just because we're not on a level playing field doesn't mean we "can't" compete with City - and that's exactly the mentality that has seen us celebrate securing 4th place like we've just won the league at St James' Park. This City side are too good for this league at the moment and they can afford to fuck around for most of every game and still win with plenty of room to spare but stack them up against some of the best sides in modern PL history - Arsenal 2004, Chelsea 2005 + 2006, United 2008 - and they're not special. They're just bully boys in a shit league.

thats true - but they've also had the sense to loan their dross out to villa etc. whereas we reward ours with a new contract.afcforever wrote:Its not fucking rocket science, city can waste millionsStuartL wrote:afcforever wrote:The only reason we wont win the title, citys sugar daddy. look at Wenger - not one single trophy in his last two contracts, but he gets a pay raise to make him the 2nd highest paid gaffer in world football.

Not to the same extent but for over the previous two seasons we've amassed two points more than Spurs with a wage surplus of about £100m. And whilst it's unrealistic to expect any manager to get every transfer right we have consistently mis-spent our money - for example spending nearly £25m on Giroud (average) and Podolski (doesn't fit) instead of spending £30m and slightly less than their combined wages on a quality striker.afcforever wrote:We are extremely rich, but we cant throw millions down the drain like citynorthbank123 wrote:Nobody's saying we're on a level footing with the likes of City - clearly we're not.
