Anyone's missus had a hysterectomy

Post by LeftfootlegendGooner »

Hey guy, firstly many thanks for the best wishes towards my missus, she had an ovary and some other bits removed on the 30th January (her dad passed away 2 weeks later) and having done some tests we were called to the doctors office last Thursday where they confirmed (after ringing her with the news a few days earlier) that she had a high abnormal cell count and that a full hysterectomy was needed, she is booked in this Thursday so it must be bad to get her in within a week.

Obviously this means many things as she will need to go on HRT afterwards as she is still relatively young for this procedure, I was just wondering if anyone's missus has had this done and what she can expect.

TBH I am just relieved as fuck that she didn't have cancer as that was what I thought it was going to be so at least they found this in time, can't imagine what would have happened had she not had the ovary removed.

I think we have truly upset someone up there (I would believe this if it was me but my missus is lovely), cos the day we went to see the doctor last Thursday her mum was kicked by her horse which damaged her kidney and she was taken to hospital then rushed an hour and a half to Lincoln because she had internal bleeding, her kidney has started healing but she will be in for another week a least. The missus adores her mum and wants to see her but will be in no state herself to travel for at least 3 weeks and vice versa.

You couldn't make it up really, so if any of my posts are a bit tetchy please forgive me as this is like some fucking nightmare that is on a loop.

The reason I ask the question is that some older women have been telling my missus doom and gloom stories and this obviously upsets her but the doctor assured us that the procedure has been revolutionised in the last 5 years and that these horror stories she has been told are nonsense.

He said that half of the women are out on the same day as it is done by keyhole surgery, I did ask him "could they iron the next?", he laughed then said no! and no hoovering for at least 6 weeks  Thats my evenings sorted then

My wife had it done 33 Years ago and was not well for months, but that was the old way where she was cut up. I know a woman that had it done with the keyhole surgery and was great after few weeks.
Don't worry about it,she will be running down the Beach this Summer in a Bikini :barscarf:

My mum had one around a year ago to get rid of a fibroid , she did have a few complications a hour after the surgery with internal bleeding because of her low blood pressure and was in for a few extra day but it was sorted..
She had 6 weeks off work and around 4 weeks were spent on the sofa.
After the 6 week she on great form, felt the best she has in years.

A really good mates mum had one too with no problem now she is doing great. After the the 6 weeks the majority of stories i've heard the woman are back to normal.

You'd think people would have a bit of tact and not try and rack their brains to blurt ou negative stories they've heard like that but sadly too many people can't wait to scavenge through their brains for any bad anecdotes they can unleash on you.

When my grandad got released from hospital a few years back he was extremely weak and as he had done most of the stuff around the house clearly my him and my Nan needed help. Although my nan is a great woman she is the most stubborn arse you could ever hope to come across and would make even the worst posters on here seem reasonable! It took a lot of battling to persuade my nan that the carers would be a massive help and wouldn't be obtrusive or anything. And then some dozy bitch down her road who she doesn't even know starting spouting off about how her friend's mum had terminal cancer and the carers she had used to have would just come in twice a day and sit down doing nothing but drinking tea and watching her die and that was all the assurance my nan needed to refuse help :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Obviously not the same and probably better posted on the Grumpy Git for but ah well, fingers crossed for you

My good lady wife had the lining of her womb removed after our second child because of various complications and risk factors. Not the same I know but it was traumatic for us as we were told that was it as far as kids go. But it was something that had to be done for her health and for the good of our family and you just pull together and get through these things.

I'm sure your girl will bounce back from this Lefty. Thank God it's not something worse and be strong for her, mate (which I know you will). 8)

Cheers mate, I got back from seeing her in hospital half hour ago, journey taking twice as long cos its all flooded around here.

I took her in at 7 this morning then went home to work, she had the op at 9 but there were complications (scar tissue from a c-section and appendicitis where the bladder and bowel stick to it) and it took 4 hours instead of 1 and a half but the surgeon says that it was successful.

They did a lot of scrapes and these will be tested and he did say that if it turns out to be a certain ....... (I can't type it) then it would be the best case scenario as it would be just in this area and would have been removed.

Woke up at 4 this morning and just went through our times together in my mind, I can be strong as an ox for her when I am with her but totally fucking useless without her.
