I've noticed the sudden perception that England is awash with unusually talented young players. In his latest offering Phil McNulty (twat-in-chief at BBC football) claimed that Ross Barkley will "surely become world class".
Which players may I question has he highlighted as being hugely talented? The likes of Jon Flanagan, John Stones, Jordan Henderson
The likes of Sterling, the Ox and Shaw are bright young players on an international level but the vast majority of the ytoungsters are not particularly exciting, they have just been overpromoted because of the dearth of senior players.

I think Shaw and even more so the Ox are very fortunate to be included.

I suppose it depends on why Woy chose to take them. I'd argue that Shaw has been the best left back in the premiership this season, Baines forward play and set pieces mask the fact that he isnt brilliant defensively (suspect positioning for one) whereas Shaw is more effective in that area, probably because as a Southampton player he has to be. If picked on form, he deserves to go.
If you apply the same criteria to the Ox he probably shouldnt go, injured for much of the season and inconsistent when he has played. I imagine Woy has picked him based on what he needs for the team (pace and directness) and the fact that he has always played pretty well for England.

And that is how the team should be picked. Not based on 'golden generation', not based on experience, not based on age/youth, based on the needs of the team. Unfortunately for England they don't really seem to have a firm style of play/tactical method to make it a smoother transition for new players (unlike the luxury Spain or Germany have) so they need to start from scratch and not just use the warm-up games to chop and change and roll over third-rate opposition.
If we just took the youngsters, whom would they learn off?
Not so much how to play the game, they mostly learn that at their clubs.
But about pacing oneself through a tournament and keeping a positive mind-state through three weeks in unfamiliar territory.
The team will go on day trips, Hodgson has seen how they were cooped up under Capello.
But even so, there is a limit to what hey can do logistically and in terms of the security element too. I am not for one minute suggesting that these players will be enduring hardship compared to millions of people around the world, but it can be tricky keeping focused in such conditions.
Especially when they know john terry a good team mate of theirs is back home banging the wives into oblivion. All in the name of Ingerland you understand.

Exatamondo!
Rednose *word censored* may have gone/stopped managing the team, but you can bet your boots he is in the background causing and doing all kinds of mischief, his influence will continue to haunt the FA and the Prem bosses till the *word censored* dies.

Stay as far away from the England team as possible. The kid's made of glass and we could do without him contracting boneitis in a meaningless friendly.

Yeah that's very true! I'd much prefer him to be fully fit for us a whole season, he just must be wondering what the hell he has to do to break into the international side! Ah well, long may he continue wondering!

Dont think you can afford to take an injury prone left back. Baines and Shaw look the part imo. If Kieron bides his time and stays fit his time will come.

Yeah, he has age on his side but even though he has improved I don't think he's quite good enough.

That's what I was thinking - put aside all the injury prone stuff and put aside the fact that he is an Arsenal player and all you are left with is an average left full who has yet to progress to the expected level
