Dublin Arsenal supporters Club are having a big day out in the Mercantile on Dame Street..I'm no longer a member (18 years since I was) but have been invited in via Twitter.. I am almost certain that I will watch at home on my own, the thoughts of being in company in the event of a defeat along with not actually enjoying football in pubs anymore are the deciding factors. Win and its into Town immediately, lose and its darkened room with no human contact..

I am 45 and will easily get into double figures on saturday, starting at 12 noon, drinking in the ground and afterwards.

What's the big deal about getting to a pub early because you will be plastered by 5pm, thats the idea! Have a hearty brekkie, get there for lunchtime and raise a beer for the Arsenal. Even if its too early you can get to a good pub, reserve your spot and drink peckham spring until 1-30/2pm !
You don't get crushing 3 day hangovers nowadays? :o

Christ I do. :|

Seriously. Back in the day I could go on the piss after work, do a full day the next day no bother, go back on the sauce that night, do an all-dayer on saturday or sunday (depending on which day I played footy) and do that for months on end. A fry up or a cure the next morning was all I needed. 8)

Nowdays? One night on the piss = 3 days of hangover hell. :(
I don't drink half as much as I used to back in the day, but I find that pacing myself like drinking a pint every 45 mins or so and letting nature take its course is actually a nice way of getting tipsy. After a few hours its like 1 pint in one out !

Also I find when I am pumped up for a drinkup like on my stag do or any big footy match the adrenalin kicks in and definitely enhances my ability to handle my beer. The hangover will come but I will probably (hopefully) be pissed on sunday as well saluting the players on their fourth place trophy/double(ahem) ! Hair of the dog on the second day will sort me out but I wont drink loads on sunday. I will be fine by monday. No work for me too next week, in fact its been like that for the last year!

maybe i'm showing my age but I don't get the need to be drinking 5-6 hours BEFORE the match - I would rather drink for 5-6 hours AFTER the match (hopefully celebrating!)
Why not both, Mary Jane? :gayflag:

:-P

But yeah, it's an age thing. In my 20's and 30's it was often early morning drinking on match day right through to the following day depending on the result. In Paris 06 I started at 4am on the morning of the CL final and finished up at 7.30/8am the following morning. And I'm talking solid drinking. Now in my 40's, even the thought of that much drinking would just not interest me anymore at all. :| It's a young man's game!

That gave me a laugh. We started the day on the ferry from Dover at about 9am and were still going in some bar, somewhere near the Gard du Nor at 9am the next morning, flags strung up outside the bar, cheering all the Frogs off to work as they went by. God knows what they thought of us. Happy Days :D :D

Do you have to be a member to get into the Mercantile on Saturday?

Had my first couple beers in the shower at home at 4am before heading to the airport the morning of the match. The missus clocked it and just laughed, called me a "knacker".

We stayed in Pigalle and ended up back there the next morning in a night workers cafe, surrounded by shift workers, cops and prossies! We sang Allez les Blues and the locals responded with Allez les Rouge. Quality. When we sang "Perry Groves is number one" a couple of other Gooners sat down the back that we hadn't spotted joined in and we got a standing ovation from the locals. Brilliant piss up. 8) Shame about the result the night before, huh? :(

This is pretty much what I'll be doing too, the phone will of course be switched off though to aviod the "where are you watching the game?" calls and texts from people who would more than likely wind me up during the game. Her indoors will also be sent outdoors for the evening

It's looking like I will pulling a "sickie" on Saturday because some tosser won't let me have the evening off work :banghead: .

So I'll be watching the game at home, with my Step father sat next to me (Chelsea fan) taking the piss every time we fuck up. After that, I'll be getting pissed up town to either celebrate or drown my sorrows 8)

There used to be a great Arsenal pub on the Caledonian Road, nearer to Kings Cross I think...cannon on the ceiling and all that. Think they used to organise an open top bus from there on cup final days. Anyone remember what it was called and whether it's still a gooner pub?

Not alot of gooners im my home town,so atm dont know where i will watch it.1 pub here in town has,2 gooners working in it,so might head there..have to admit would make a change to watch a cup final sober, and actually remember the match lol.2001 final was in pub at 11 am still there at 11pm crying my eyes out ,my mother holding my hand and my wife to be at the time (and now my ex wife) working behind the bar thinking why am i marrying tht twat lol.took her 12 yrs to find out.

1998 final i travelled to london for the weekend with no ticket and watched it in quinns pub in camden, got drunk got seperated from my cousins and aunt, eventually ended up down at highbury eating pork balls singing sit down if you hate tottenham with 100s of other gooners. Best craic ive ever had.
