With odds that long I'll sleep easy tonight. Hate that :censored: as much as I hated Van Horseface. I can honestly say I would never want to see him wear the famous red and white.

Why would we have to sell? All of those four players were out for quite a long time last season via injury. Jack still hasn't really found his ideal position in the squad. Surely we'd prefer to have a squad full of high quality? I'd sleep easy knowing we had a the midfield options of those four plus Cesc, especially when the inevitable injuries build up!

Finances. Let's assume for a second that this £100m warchest is accurate (I would be very surprised if we spent 100m net) would you really want to spend a third of that buying another No. 10? We already have 4 of those for that 1 position as it is. I think Cesc could possibly 'do a job' in the centre replacing Arteta but would you really want us to spend 30m getting him to do that? Personally I'd rather we chucked 30m getting the 23-25 yr old top quality athletic defensive midfielder that we've lacked since the great exodus of 2007.

Factor in the current going rate for top strikers and our need for at least 2 defenders and a goalkeeper that 100m warchest (if by some miracle it even exists) is not going to go very far if we spunk 30m on Cesc without selling one of our 1908384757 other attacking midfielders.

I totally understand what you're getting at, it makes sense. But realistically we aren't going to spend upwards of £30 million on a striker anyway, who would we go for anyway that would cost that much? You mention a defensive midfielder, which yeah would be good, but as I've said that won't do much if the manager doesn't allow the player to play defensive, or set the team up to play defensively.

If Vermaelen goes, which isn't guaranteed yet, then we need a right back which won't be too expensive and a back up keeper which again won't be that expensive. I personally feel that £100 million (if it's true and if we'd spend it) is more than enought to justify spending £30 million on Cesc. We'd just be idiotic to let him go somewhere else.

We might as well be 330/1. He went to China on huge wages, matched by the Turks.......he'd want £200k per week+ and at his age what would be the point?

Arteta seems to be allowed to play defensively. I get the point with old Alex Mong, it baffled me at the time why he wasn't being forced to show even the slightest bit of discipline rather than constantly bombing on and playing Stevie Me hollywood balls.

We need 4 center backs. Clearly a large part of Wenger's thinking last season was that Sagna could cover as a 4th CB (which he did very well when needed). Even with Vermaelen staying we need a CB unless he gets another utility man at RB, which I hope he doesn't because there are very few around who can play both positions as well as Sagna.

I guess he has been allowed to do that, either that or both Arteta and Wenger know that he's very limited now at providing much going forward, particularly with the talent we have in that area. But yeah my thinking is largely how our last 'defensive' midfielder, Song, was allowed to bomb forward as you mention.

I agree with you about 4 center backs, but if Vermaelen stays then I don't see why we have to particularly spend a massive amount on a 4th choice centre back. Do we not have any of these vaunted 'internal solutions' for that area anyway?

Hmm, could be a possibility. Although at 32 he's clearly pushing on, even as a back up. I think I'd prefer a younger player that can learn from Per and Kos. But he's free so Wenger will probably snap him up!

He's also currently out with a long term cruciate injury so perfect for us.
Yeah, but he'll still be faster than Giroud-

End of the day I'd rather we add a world class midfielder in Cesc to the squad than have any of our 'rivals' being strengthened. We can never have too many world class players, or is our current abundance of those types of players weighing us down? Yes it shouldn't be at the detriment of strengthening other areas of the squad (particularly up front), but how exactly could we say signing Cesc is a bad thing?

Plus one of those players who are currently clogging up the midfield want's him back...

we wont sign cesc. hes not a priority position. but we should sign him if we can depose of cazorla. cesc is twice the player he is.
