To be honest just because one particular US poster got my back up with his former colonies comment the other day. Pretty immature I know

And that was due to some quite frequent piss-taking of our nation.northbank123 wrote:Some pretty smug posting from two users above...augie wrote:Why the need to mock the american interest in "soccer" ?
Not sure how you can say this anymore. CONCACAF have 3 teams in Round of 16, only behind CONMEBOL and UEFA. CAF has 2 and AFC has 0.Bradywasking wrote:The American fans at the world cup seem very passionate, hard to judge how knowledgeable they are..if their President is anything to go by then not very... Their team is in the world Cup on merit, albeit from a weak qualifying group/area.
When we in Ireland qualified for our first major tournament in 1988 there was a hardcore of a "soccer" public in the country, within a few months we were infested with experts. a nation was conned by the media and drink companies and publicans into believing Jack Charlton was God and played football properly. it seems there is a similar bandwagon effect catching on in USA..Their league and supporters seem a bit in your face types but that to an extent is the American way..I love hearing Oireland football fans describe other nations as "footballing backwaters " or "emerging nations" ..Ireland has no players from their domestic league within an country mile of playing for the national team , the same domestic ;league is poorly attended and of a very low standard...The few that turn up are often ridiculed by the mmasses that follow football in Ireland by flying to Glasgow , Manchester, Liverpool or London to support their teams..At least USA have a half decent league structure and support. If New York only get 25,000 crowds from a population of six or seven million , then so be it.
You think this forum has displayed frequent piss-taking of the USA? Go to any PL ground and ask your average fan for their thoughts on 'soccer' and its fans and you'd realise people on here are actually extremely welcoming in comparison! I like winding up England football fans when it goes tits up as much as anyone but your sanctimonious posting and reference to colonies just makes you look like a bit of a cock.gp543 wrote:And that was due to some quite frequent piss-taking of our nation.northbank123 wrote:Some pretty smug posting from two users above...augie wrote:Why the need to mock the american interest in "soccer" ?
