As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
I' going to stick my head on the block again and say that I would be happy with the debuchy signing - I'm not saying that I am comfortable with the size of the transfer fee, and despite with deschamps thinks I still don't think that he is as good as sagna, but given the alternatives I think that it would be a good signing. I don't believe that we would sign a top tier full back and I dont want us to sign aurier (or any African player for that matter), so I believe that it is preferable to sign a player that is used to the premier league and wont need an adjustment period.
I have to add that the rumours of jenkinson being included in the deal baffle me - if he was allowed to leave (on loan or a permanent deal) then we are still in a position that we only have right back and I would have thought that it is highly unlikely that we would sign 2 right backs this window but of course with le cock you never know
we sold one french right back and brought in another one. like for like. no improvement.
I guess that is Arsenal right now though - just doing the minimum to stay in the top 4. pathetic.
basically our whole business plan relies on Suarez leaving Liverpool.
if he goes then we have a chance of getting 4th place ( I have seen enough of that Van Gaal these past couple of weeks to acknowledge he will get United in the top 4 this season. anyone doubting that just needs to look at United's opening fixtures )
so it is us v the victims and the scum for 4th place. Yawn. the club are not even under any pressure to win a trophy this season - that was ticked off in May although wait for the hype coming up about the "New York Cup", the "Emirates Cup" and the "Community Shield" Hey we can win a trophy treble by the time we kick off the new season

To be fair "super quailty" keepers are the rarest commodity in the game: there's generally less than 10 in the whole world at any time - I'm talking about your Cech's, Buffon's, Casillas', etc.
Just have a look around the game today; I'd say Neuer and Courtois are the only top echelon keepers to emerge over the past five years or so, the others have been building their careers for over a decade.
Besides, Jens Lehmann - though maybe not world class barring 2006 - was still a top, top keeper.
I myself like the look of Navas but the frustrating thing is Wenger's only going to bring someone who's content to sit on the bench - he won't buy a GK with the ability to usurp Szczesny.

How about we wait until the transfer window ends?
Am not a WUM, just sick of the usual shite about slagging off Wenger.
No perspective, no reasoned thinking....let's just go along with the vocal minority and slag off Wenger at every opportunity.
FFS he was criticised for spending so much time in Brazil....during a major football tournament.....??!???!!??

I reckon he is almost perfectly suited to what a 'wing forward' should be in a system like ours. I also think - based on what relativity little I've seen of him to be fair - that he could play the CF role effectively for vast majority of games. It is such a demanding role that unless you've got one of the very top strikers in world football you are going to have to sacrifice on something. With Sanchez it's physical presence but this could be offset by his pace, movement and footballing brain. When he has been on one of his shit-hot runs how many headers has Rooney scored despite his lack of real height? For games where we really need a different approach we've got the option of playing Giroud up front.
I still don't think for a minute that signing Sanchez would justify our unwavering dedication to 4-5-1 but I think he would be a good fit for us.
I saw quite a bit of him last season. He regularly filled in for Messi while he was injured. AS is strong, quick, is a brilliant dribbler (maybe he could teach Wally) and scores goals. imo upfront or outwide we'll be e better team with him in the line up.

Am not a WUM, just sick of the usual shite about slagging off Wenger. there is the usual shite about slagging him of because he just continues to act as he has always done. where is his ambition? where is the ambition at the club? if he changed then this forum would.
No perspective, no reasoned thinking....let's just go along with the vocal minority and slag off Wenger at every opportunity. where is your reasoned thinking for defending him? I criticise because last season apart from fluking the FA Cup we were an utter disgrace at times and a total joke in the big league games
FFS he was criticised for spending so much time in Brazil....during a major football tournament.....??!???!!??
but what has he contributed to Arsenal during this time in Brazil? I don't see any evidence of anything!!!

Huge, huge difference between playing centre forward in spain as opposed to playing centre forward in a physical league such as englands - technique and spain will do the job in spain but in our team he would have to be able to hold the ball up and win headers against big bruising centre halves. Tbh I think that playing him in girouds position (in the current system) would be a massive, massive mistake and on a par with signing kalou IF we buy sanchez then at least play him in a system and position that will give him a chance to succeed cos otherwise we could be talking about him and ozil being major flops

Interesting one - who starts in goal for Sunderland? Mannone was something of a revelation for them but surely Pantilimon hasn't left City to go sit on the bench there? Unless he was let go but given that he has put some pressure on Hart last two seasons I'm not sure that's the case.
Also at what point does Hart stop being a great young keeper who makes a few mistakes and start being an unreliable player with the ability to pull off the odd magnificent save? In the World Cup he looked so fucking jumpy, his concentration and handling are alarming at times. He hasn't turned himself round as he should have.
