Only because of unsuitability to wenker's "system" - another example of reading a comment without reading the reasons why

Nothing to suggest Wenger won't change the system now that we're getting Sánchez.

Nothing apart from several years and failing to change it after selling Nasri and Fabregas or van Judas, or signing Ozil or Podolski.

DB10GOONER wrote:Regarding Ozil, I really don't know what some people watch when looking at a football game. After an admittedly shakey start (and jumping out of two or three 50/50's  ) he was solid last night. Not a box to box match winner, no, but he never has been. His passing was mostly very good, very intelligent, and some of it absolutely class.

I think people need to see him for what he is; a very technically gifted player, but not a worker. He appears lazy, but I'd say that is down to his footballing intelligence - he won't chase pointless causes around the pitch like a headless chicken. He ain't Robbie Savage FFS.  He is what they call an economical player.

I maintain if we signed 2 or 3 other world class players on a similar level as him we would get the best from him week in week out. I always look back to the perceived "improvement" in Bergkamp when he went from playing with Selley, Hartson, McGolderick and Hillier to playing with Vieira, Overmars, Petit and later Henry and Pires. Bergkamp always had the genius but suddenly he had players that could think and play on the same level. Ozil is similar.

Yup! all this Ozil bashing is getting a bit much - just coz he's a miserable bastard and only turns up occasionally - doesn't mean he's not world class and worth £43million!

Agree totally with that 8) People are getting a bit precious about ozil if they think that criticism of ozil is ozil bashing - can a players performance not be analysed without it being perceived as a personal attack on him ? I dont think anybody on here doubts that ozil is world class but it isnt enough to have world class ability in your locker if most of the time you turn in "solid" performances (not especially picking on your phrases DB10 but that one suits this point the best) ? I have yet to meet a Gooner anywhere who would describe barbietov as anything other than lazy so why the difference with ozil ? I know that he was never in ozil's level of class but he was still technically superior to most players and nobody defended his lazyness on the basis of his ability made him exempt from working hard

Personally I would sell him - yes I have real doubts that he can adapt his game to english requirements but that isnt the reason for me. I believe that to get the best out of ozil then we would need to built a team and system around him - for him to shine he would, in my opinion at least, need to be playing behind two strikers or playing off 1 henry/anelka trype of striker and we neither have that nor do we have a manager willing to build a team around the players he has
Whilst I wouldn't agree with selling him at this point, I do agree you make valid points regarding his ability to adapt to what passes as our "system" as it is currently. I also agree that we would need to adapt to him as much as him adapting to the PL if we are to see the best of him. If Wenger won't buy in 2 or 3 top quality players to compliment Ozil and build the team around him, then tbh he may as well sell him because this current "system" with these current players will never get the best from Ozil. I still stand firmly behind my view that Wenger fucked up by not building a team around Cesc in 2007/2008.

Read some bits about Ozil from last nights game on here and one thing that struck me about him is that at one point I saw a German player sprinting hell for leather into the brazil last third and my immediate thought was "that can't be Ozil, it's way to quick".

Low and behold it actually was, now this got me thinking to last season and at times I would think "Ozil is a lot quicker than I thought but he seems only very occasionally go at full speed".

So I just looked at a site with FIFA stats (I fuckin know already!!!!!  ). Below.

Without Theo Walcott in the side last season, Arsenal appeared to lack pace across the whole team.

Yet one Mesut Ozil has managed to demonstrate at the World Cup that he possesses speed up there with the very best.

FIFA records show that the playmaker clocked a top speed of 32 kilometres per hour in Germany's 1-0 quarter final against France.

Only Shkodran Mustafi and Mats Hummels in the German squad have run faster, at 32.9 k/ph and 32.3 k/ph.

Ozil's sprint speed puts him above several notable names, including Neymar (31.8 k/ph), Cristiano Ronaldo (31.2 k/ph) and Wayne Rooney (30.7 k/ph).

He is also ranked above Arjen Robben, with the Dutchman's top speed registered at 31.6 k/ph. It was claimed earlier in the tournament that Robben had reached 37 k/ph but this was not deemed official by FIFA.

Ozil's speed is only marginally lower than Theo Walcott's top registered pace. FIFA records show the Arsenal's high has clocked 32,7 k/ph. Manchester United's Antonio Valencia came out top in a recent study with 35.2 k/ph.

The fastest player at the World Cup so far is Costa Rica's Junior Diaz who registered 33.8 k/ph.

Serious note..Germany could not score enough for me last night ten or eleven would have been just.. Ozil is subtly brilliant..will not be appreciated for it because he isn't a Scholsey or a Stevie Me..but he is class.
Bang on the money.

Even Dunphy and Giles on RTE nailed it last night. Modern football is all about athletes and coaching systems. The media and coaches want robots, runners and battlers, not technically superb players that can improvise. :|
The only improvising I see is him often laying the ball off to someone else - normally in a worse position - so as not to take the responsibility, which is the opposite to what a true world class player does!! Although I can appreciate the odd bit of class in his passing, he doesn't take control of games the way a player of his reputation should and is also way too timid/precious for my liking (something now displayed at national as well as club level).

Sadly Ozil is showing signs of being more of an Arshavin type than a Ronaldo in terms of dominating opponents. Still, perhaps he'll improve...... :rubchin:

I was getting texts from people about Ozil last night while his team were winning 5-0 and he was playing well. Sometimes I think people watch a different game. There were times watching him last season where while he clearly hadn't hit full speed nearly all good attacking moves we did in games involved him. I think some people underestimate just how difficult some of the passes he makes look simple really are.

The fact that his face shows little emotion doesn't concern me in the slightest. It concerns me even less now that I know it's the same in a World Cup Semi-Final as it is on a wet Wednesday night in Northland.

Spot on. Özil's movement is also breathtaking. I would recommend focusing on him and watching his movement closely in the next game. The guy is always in space. Top notch player whom we are lucky to have.

As DB10 said people are infatuated with the Gerrard style all action midfielder but don't see the subtlety with which a player like Özil plays his game. He always works in the shadows looking for space and playing killer passes. His main weakness for me is his finishing which I hope Wenger will work with him on like he did with Ramsey.

You say that like it is an asset :? Does messi, the portugese ladyboy or any of the other world talents play in the shadows ? WE all claim ozil to be world class but some seem to feel that it is ok for a world class player to drift in and out of games  I don't understand how some constantly defend ozil by stating ozil is world class because we all know that he is world class, but yet they choose to ignore the complaints that he doesn't impose himself in games enough and goes missing too often

His finishing is often OK, not brilliant for sure, but for me its the way he completely funks tackles, there were a few last night that were really awful, - WTF him and Cazorla are a liability in the same team for any help with defence. Thats why Cesc should have come back- would have creamed myself with Cesc Ozil Rambo in midfield and Sanchez/ Walcott and the Ox making foreward runs. Such a massive shame.
