Jack Wilshere
Re: Jack Wilshere: Over-Rated?
He's not as good as the media hyped him up to be when he first made the Ing-er-lund breakthrough, and nor is he as bad as those same tabloid journos are now making him out to be
One thing he certainly isn't is a holding midfielder - not until he's worked on his retention of the ball for another few years. Whether you like Arteta or not he has played responsibly in that role for a good couple of season, refusing to play Hollywood passes like Song and being simple in what he does with the ball. Wilshere gives the ball away too often and whilst he might get away with that more often further up the field, he won't with only a couple of players behind him
Let him develop by rotating him with the other more attacking midfielders - there's no god given right he has to be an automatic selection so lets not make him one by sticking a square peg in a round hole

Re: Jack Wilshere: Over-Rated?
doesn't matter whether its Arteta, Wilshire, etc...they've all lacked the balls to get us through critical stages of seasons.
What we've lacked is some real leadership.

MOTM today, great goal and great assist.
He seems to have stolen Ramsey's mojo.

Much better today but he really should release the ball earlier instead of running into dead ends... if he continues to do that sooner or later he will pick up another injury.Chippy wrote:MOTM today, great goal and great assist.![]()

Ramsay is now playing deeper.
last two performances have been good. he needs to keep it up.

Re: Jack Wilshere: Over-Rated?
a mature performance, hopefully this will see him grow into the role a bit more because we haven't had a proper leader in midfield since gilberto left
Re: Jack Wilshere: Over-Rated?
Agreed - he was fantastic today but anyone thinking this is him excelling in some new role is ignoring the reality. Ramsey was alongside Flamoney half the time today and Jack was much more the driving force behind the front men - funny enough where he was fucking excellent 3 seasons ago before that nasty injury and this recent dicking around as a left midfielder or CDM. I would rather see him in a more advanced role even if that means he has to be rotated a bit more, and sign the key holding midfielder we've been crying out for for yearsclockender1 wrote:he was much better.Chippy wrote:MOTM today, great goal and great assist.![]()

Deserves a lot of credit though - he's been over criticised in my opinion - mostly because 3 years ago he was Ing-er-lund's Great White Hope - but let them big up Jordan fucking Henderson because over time Jack will be 10x the player he is

Re: Jack Wilshere: Over-Rated?
Rotation seems to me to be the best option for both Rambo and Jack-Jack was definitely overplayed in his first season. His play so far this season has been on a much better level.
Im not sure still that Jack and Rambo play that well together really, bit too similar perhaps

Best performance since his famous display vs Barca all those years ago.

It would be difficult to argue against that sentiment 1989... long may it continue.1989 wrote:Best performance since his famous display vs Barca all those years ago.

Re: Jack Wilshere: Over-Rated?
Maybe that is also why Rambo was not at the races - He is a natural going forward type of mid-fielder - so if he has been given instructions to stay back more - it could be affecting his game???SteveO 35 wrote:Agreed - he was fantastic today but anyone thinking this is him excelling in some new role is ignoring the reality. Jack & Rambo have both shown they have great skills etc in the past - and they weren't one off games....so maybe if they can be played in their natural roles somehow - then we have two top players who can destroy oppositions and win us games.
