Play Off Finals
Hate these games with a passion, rather I hate what they are about. Reward for failure in the leagues. Finish outside top two, get into a Wembley Final with the suits, the shirts, the build up , the trophy presentation and the celebrations. Bristol Rovers were promoted to the Football League at a Wembley Final last week FFS.
The trophy for the Championship Play Off should be renamed The Wenger Cup for a top six finish.

I like the German system where 3rd bottom in the top division plays 3rd in the second division. As for Monday, I'd rather Norwich win just because Middlesbrough is a shit hole, don't have any affection for the Delias

It was done that way here when they started doing it. We got rid of chelsea for a season thanks to them losing a play off after the y finished 3rd bottom. It was Middlesbrough and I found it very funny, even as a child. The Chavs really were fucking tinpot then.augie wrote:Red Snapper wrote:It was done that way here when they started doing it. That is the way it should be done, but the semi finals and the Wembley finals are money spinners so they will stay. Sky manufacture the drama and sell it on to the consumer. it is illogical that a club get to a cup final for failing to win promotion.

Re: Play Off Finals
If I remember rightly, the play offs began with a club from the bottom of Division 1 against a team near the top of division 2 as part of the process.Bradywasking wrote:Ziegler1988 wrote:I like the German system where 3rd bottom in the top division plays 3rd in the second division. I'd be surprised if Sky hadn't in the past and in the future, weren't again to explore a play off system as the top of the premier league.

I wonder now ,when next season Sky have no CL football will they be bigging up the play offs more ,as they can't really make a big thing about the top 4,as there is no reward for them after losing CL coverage.

Re: Play Off Finals
Bristol Rovers deserved the final. They are a big club with a loyal fanbase who were very unlucky to be relegated out of the football league on the last day of the season last year, and were pulling in 11k crowds in the vanarama conference. Thats a higher crowd than most league one sides. Not to mention that they did finish 2nd, so should have been promoted anyway. They haven't ever had anything to shout about, seriously they have done fuck all ever, even bristol city have done more than them, so my sympathies were with them this season.Bradywasking wrote:Hate these games with a passion, rather I hate what they are about. Re: Play Off Finals
they should be scaled down to 3rd and 4th but in no way should a team in the top flight be given second chances. hamburg finished 3rd bottom last season too, better system my fucking arse.
Re: Play Off Finals
Have to say, I'm a fan of the playoffs.
It brings interest to more clubs as the battle for top 6 can become quite intense as the season comes to a climax. Then you have the drama of the playoffs.
I like it but I do accept it's a fairer system if the top 3 go up. However, it provides great entertainment.
Although, lets be honest, 3rd place in the league is hardly exceptional, so probably doesn't warrant the same reward as 1st and 2nd anyway. So, dragging them into a playoff seems quite reasonable to me.
Wouldn't want the bottom 3 in the Prem playing off with Championship teams though. They don't deserve a second chance to preserve their PL status.
- it's also unfair, as the Premier League clubs have more money, so will always have an advantage against lower league opposition. You need to allow the promoted Championship clubs time to add to their squad with PL money to give them a fighting chance.
Denying them that opportunity before playing PL teams in a playoff will make it more difficult to win promotion and stifle the flow of newly promoted teams to freshen up the league and give hope to lower league clubs.

Re: Play Off Finals
Agree with Gooner, I like them, though some of the meejah stuff is annoying.
Its given some cracking games this season, Southend equalising in the last minute and winning on Pens, Gas just winning on pens too, Preston were just too good for Swindon, but will be hard to forget a 5-5 game at Swindon in a hurry. The Semi final derby of FGR V Gas and Ipswich V Norwich added excitement as well.
Remember the relegated team from the upper league matches, but often it was a case of a badly out of form team v a proper in form team and they weren't so exciting.
Hoping for a Norwich win today though.
Incidentally, Gas have been unlucky over the years, but IMHO they've been lucky to sneak back up. The story of GAs is a really sad one stadium wise.

Well done Norwich City, much preferred them over Boro.
