Maybe wengers powers have waned?? Perhaps he just doesn't have it in him to attract world class.......When was the last time he tempted world class to come to Arsenal?? Ozil wanted out....Sanchez wasnt first choice.....he made a balls of the vampire deal.

Why would a settled world class player go to Arsenal??

Did he?

If we bought Benzema, i'm sure we would hear that he was second choice etc. Long may it continue :barscarf:

At least Van Gaal seems to have no issue attracting world class players

Considering how much you criticise arsenal, I'm surprised you're so confident those players would choose to play for arsenal over playing under mourinho at Chelsea and treble winners bayern Munich.

Hey, I'm surprised but you're right of course. You always are.
Oh you're right. Even though my point was he should have Tried for those players - fundamental point being he doesn't even bother bidding for top players unless they fall into his lap. Pay attention now please or maybe you'll be better at ease with that incredible book of apologetic excuses you wrote about 5 years ago?

And doesn't your question kinda contradict your point that dear Arsene managed the awesome feat of signing world class players Ozil and Sanchez? How did he beat all those other top clubs to their signings then? Unless they wasn't actually any competition for them? :rubchin:

Also, where's your standard "can't judge whether my undercooked lasagna dinner was an absolute failure until the transfer window is shut" line? Or maybe I'll wait to judge this post "until the window is shut"

Beat Wenger all you like but Lewandowski was only ever going to Bayern, free or not.

Maybe we did register an interest? but either way, I very much doubt we would have been successful as I actually thought Lewandowski's desire to join Bayern was common knowledge? :?

Maybe you're right that a move to Arsenal instead of Bayern could have turned his head, but I'm not sure I believe that as I think he probably had his heart set on Bayern.

What contradiction?

There probably wasn't competition for them. I've always thought it was timing as much as anything.

- Ozil wasn't assured a place in the Madrid team anymore, Real wanted to sell and we had money to burn on deadline day. Who else was in for him? :?
- Sanchez seems to have been choosing between us and Liverpool, so that helped! perhaps he would have chosen Man Utd or Bayern if they'd pushed hard enough.

There's a pecking order in world football and we are not at the top, so if we sign world class players it's unlikely to be because we beat competition from Real Madrid, Bayern, Barca, etc.

You disagree?

don't be silly.

So what if I won't declare a transfer window a failure until I see what happens. It's hardly a ridiculous stance to have yet you keep mocking me for it? - why does it bother you so much? :?

All I can do is say I'm concerned that we're not buying players. Everyone is concerned. We've been saying that all summer, but we signed Ozil late enough in 2013 to know there's still a chance of business being done. Again, I don't know why that view annoys you.

Correct.

Any possibility of a deal for Lewandowski was dead in the water because he was intent on joining Bayern.

Ye Feckin G Bag Gods Anyone thinking or even daring to imagine or pretend such a thing - should be hacked to death with a copy of Butcher's Monthly and their spare ragged parts thrown out of the window of a very fast speeding car down the Blackstock Road for the seagulls to tear at with their razor like beaks...then any remains of the flesh and bloodstains should be set on fire with a generous helping of petrol.
I'm worried at how you have planned these peoples deaths. The police will know who to turn to after the next Arsenal related death :)

G88ner. Errr my. How do I put this. Your "wait until the transfer window shuts" stance. The reason I find it so ridiculous is simple really: for about a Decade, we have been "waiting" to see if that clueless moron is able to demonstrate basic aptitude in the transfer market. And every year it's the same story. You've had TEN solid years of evidence - I'm not talking one or two windows here. The outcome is always the same so why "wait"?

You've already seen teams that were already far superior to Arsenal adding the likes of Otamendi with Stones a dead feet to join Chelski. Meanwhile, Mertesacker carries on like the useless giraffe-turd nugget he is.
You've seen Giroud awarded £130k a week - any basic knowledge tells you that means it's huge wages that can't be given to a new marquee striker. You've seen a benchwarming sprinter awarded £140k a week simply for managing a cup final goal against a shite Villa side managed by Tactics Tim.

You've got previous evidence of Wenger's transfer market inaction costing the team points already - think only signing players after getting thrashed at home to Villa. Think his retard trolley dash after that 8-2. Think signing Arshavin (when miraculously we "had no money" yet found £17m and £100k a week somehow lol) only when Villa looked like nabbing 4th. Think back to getting rid of Vermaelen and taking the piss entering the season with no defenders, only to finally sign Gabriel after several pathetic results.

All that evidence - and there's stacks of it - smacks of someone who doesn't give a shit about winning and only wants to do the bare reactive minimum when things get hot. Like I said, there's TEN years of evidence. Which makes your "wait and see" stance quite funny really.

Wait for what? Is he actually going to sign a replacement for the useless Mertesacker? Is he going to sign a better DCM than the mediocre French Coquelin, his latest pet project? Having given 2 clowns a combined £270k a week, is he then going to give Lewandowski £180k a week? The answer is obvious!

But yeah. Let's "wait and see" LOL

Obviously must be extremely bored at nobody defending Wenger's transfer policy to have to criticise him about not going after Lewandowski. It was a done deal to Bayern before it was even legitimate for anybody to approach him without permission.

Dare say that you don't need to be coming up with fanciful stuff like that to prove Wenger has been largely fucking useless in the transfer market for a long time

Not really.

We all know Wenger is a ditherer – it’s not news. I’m sure G88ner can defend himself but it seems to me that he, not unreasonably, will wait until the window shuts before climbing out of the pram.

We have recent history of signing ‘big name’ players late on and, while I would prefer we did our business early (who wouldn’t?), I don’t see what use it is to get all bent out of shape just yet.

We’ve been here before, I thought you’d have gotten used to it by now?

Why are you telling me this? :? you're preaching to the converted mate! - I want Wenger gone. He does the bare minimum to achieve 4th instead of pushing for more. I also agree that most transfer windows have gone badly....

But that's got nothing to do with this conversation, so why tell me?

This transfer window has been a pile of steaming dogshit so far. We can ALL see that, not just you so give it a rest. I'm not a fucking idiot; It's just that we've been here before and history tells us late signings are nothing new so why should I dismiss the possibility of signing more players before the end of the window? :?

We ALL would love world class players signed early so they have time to settle in. But I have no influence on when we sign players and I know we could sign players late in the window instead. It doesn't mean I'm happy about it, but what can I do?

I dunno mate, I think your biggest problem is that you're so busy attacking and ridiculing people that you don't take the time to understand their views properly.
- I just don't think my views are as ridiculous as you make out. If anything, my views are more apathetic as a result of years of disappointment hence my acceptance that signings may come late (or not at all) instead of losing my shit in mid-June over something that isn't worth getting worked up about.

So basically, I agree with much of your post. I hold similar views... but why are you telling me?

Perhaps a disclaimer at the bottom of all my posts would help?

"I would like to make it clear that although the post you have just read isn't wholly negative, I would like to reassure everyone that I am neither insane or an AKB; I wish Wenger had left the club years ago and I am in fact a miserable, pessimistic Arsenal fan. I apologise wholeheartedly that these negative views on the club don't colour every single post I make on this forum. Best regards."
