"Doping in football is widespread" - Wenger
Not sure that masses of steroids are used, because players simply do not need to be built or want to be built like a powerlifter.
But small doses to aid recovery during pre-season?
Other substances could be of use, a bit of testosterone to add aggression, or some speed to add energy?
Not to mention blood transfusions to increase oxygen in the blood.
The thing is, there are tests for these, but the dopers seem to be one step ahead of the testers.
There were a few Russians doped up at the London 2012 Olympics, but they have only just been named, either they were not caught at the time or they bribed the testers to falsify the results.

Wouldn't surprise me if half of the ex-Soviet teams are up to it. I think this is more aimed at our continental opponents rather than suggesting the likes of Leicester and Norwich are pumped full of HGH.
When Yegor Titov tested positive against Wales back in 2004 they found a concotion of drugs in his system including masking agents - I seem to recall it was the same one that the Russian Army uses. Their domestic drug testing will either be non-existent or completely ineffective and they have likely developed the perfect combination of masking agents to bypass UEFA's tired testing methods.

Always thought the Greek team that won the Euro's at football back in 2004 were doped , they had incredible stamina way above their normal levels .
There is no doubt that beefing up agents legal and illegal have been used and Arsenal are no exception .
I remember little charlie nicholas siging for us ,he was a waif when he arrived and within 3 months he had legs like Hams .
For me it ruined whatever speed he had which wasnt a lot and he never fullfilled his potential I think in part because of this .
Cocaine and Boozing did for the rest !
In the 90's the "legal" creatine was used which beefed people up until their knee ligaments couldnt cope Owen Gascoigne etc !

And just to check he is definitely talking about drugs and not 'financial doping' again?

It's only a matter of time before he accuses other managers of tactical doping!

weren't there even rumors about Barcalona doping with their press game and even Rafa Nadal and the Spanish National team a while back?Herd wrote:Always thought the Greek team that won the Euro's at football back in 2004 were doped , they had incredible stamina way above their normal levels .

Beyond pumping Lionel Messi full of Human Growth Hormone since 13/14 years of age (and yes I know he had growth problems) I don't believe any of itHumoresque wrote:weren't there even rumors about Barcalona doping with their press game and even Rafa Nadal and the Spanish National team a while back?Herd wrote:Always thought the Greek team that won the Euro's at football back in 2004 were doped , they had incredible stamina way above their normal levels .

It wouldn't come as any surprise to me if 'artifical means' were used by clubs to boost players. We always hear about clubs searching for that one percent extra or trying to find an advantage. Teams know exactly when testers are coming, which players to send and how quickly something leaves a system. Dodgy injections, 'vitamin' pills and all other shit that goes on in cycling, athletics, combat sports and whatever else, goes on in football. Who is ever going to expose it though and how much do people actually care?

Wenger himself was the advocate of giving our players the now outlawed creatine back in the day

I often suspect some of our players are on Prozac.
