A Gentleman and Great Player a True Legend....I just wonder how many goals he would be scoring if he were in his prime these days..

Simon Hoggart. One of the funniest newspaper columnists ever.
http://www.theguardian.com/media/2014/j ... t-obituary
Who else could have written of Bill Clinton as guest speaker at a Labour conference: "The former president was brilliant, dazzling, charismatic, seductive and completely shameless. He wooed them all the time. He didn't stop. He cast his eyes down coyly. Then he raised his head, smiled, and looked slowly round the audience, gazing deep into their eyes. He is the Princess Di of the political world …"
Or of Margaret Thatcher's trusty bulldog Bernard Ingham: "Brick-red of face, beetling of brow, seemingly built to withstand hurricanes, Sir Bernard resembled a half-timbered bomb shelter." Or earlier, of a familiar and much liked performer at Labour conference: "Jimmy Knapp, of RMT, the transport union, was bold and passionate. At least, I assume he was, since I couldn't comprehend a word he said and spent the time marvelling that this vast, stooped, bald man, who looks like a polar bear attacked by a lawn strimmer, is almost precisely the same age as Cliff Richard."

My dear old Dad who sadly passed away in the early hours of Monday morning. He was diagnosed 5 weeks ago of having cancer which had already spread to pretty much every major organ. He was the reason that I am a Gooner and I sat by his bedside in the Hospice last weekend holding his hand whilst watching us turn over the scum from the lane. Goodbye Dad, it was great knowing you.

Really sorry to hear that mate. I went through exactly the same situation 4 1/2 years ago with my dad. Bizarrely, also in the early hours of a Monday morning. Watching his gradual decline was agonising to say the least. Not a day goes by when I don't think of the old fella. I miss him terribly and whilst it does get easier it never completely goes away.
The only consolation I took from it was that as he was a Spuds fan I now know his misery is over!
Thinking of you and your family. Keep your chin up mate.

Thanks Spuddy for the kind words, his funeral is on the 17th, his birthday would have been on the 18th, will be at the Fulham match that day raising a few glasses for him and cheering our boys to victory.

My dad died on the 7th. I graduated university on the 10th and his birthday was the 19th. A very difficult month!
I'll raise a glass to your dad on the 17th

Sorry to here it Wayne. I'm a bit older than you and can say the pain does become number over time. I've chosen to remember only the really happy times, which helps. No consolation but at least he didn't linger too long and had a chance to say goodbye to his loved ones.
