One of the danger of PR is handing the balance of power to fringe parties . Like we had with Clegg and Cameron we would run the risk of UKIP getting a much greater say in the countries running and a fledgling party with only one or two objectives holding the rest of Parliament to ransom on subjects that they are not well versed in . I think that there should be a shake up of how Parliament operates but instead of just tinkering on the edges by changing boundaries a much smaller more detailed system should be invented with less members and more democracy. I believe that you vote for a person because you trust him/her to do the bidding of the people he represents instead of turning up in Westminster and getting told to forget why he is there and satisfy the whims of his masters.

Brexit isn't going to happen mate. The politicians with their snouts in the trough, the establishment, and all the others with a vested interest in the E.U. didn't get the result that they wanted/expected in the referendum, so democracy can go fuck itself.
We haven't had a democratically elected government in this country since 1955.
Despite the fact that people voted massively against PR?
We have PR here in Oireland and it is not the flawless system some would try and have you believe. It can lead to extremist parties and idiot crackpot parties getting a foothold on power. It also often leads to useless, weak and indecisive coalition governments getting elected - something Oireland has a long history of. The knock on effect of PR putting coalition governments into power so often is things like improvements to public services are often almost impossible to implement under such weak coalition governments. :|

I read somewhere that If the last UK general election had been held under a PR system, UKIP would have been the third-largest party in your parliament, with 83 seats instead of 1. Could you imagine Adolf Farage having power like that? :worried:

:hmmthink: :anyminute:

We've had 14 or 15 governments in the last 30 odd years. Mostly minority or coalition, mostly averaging 2.5 years in power, mostly failing to improve public services. Even during the so called "Celtic Tiger" when the country was awash with money these useless powerless PR-elected governments could not improve our creaking health service, for example. One of the truly shameful legacies of the boom in Oireland is that we slunk our way out of it with a third world health service still in place. :|

but people dont know what their voting for, right?!

those who haven't got what they want should really just accept it rather than constantly whine about it.

when boundary changes occur we will never have another Labour government ever!

woohoo. like it or not england is right to moderatley right wing, and the majority are not left leaning or centrist and never has been and never will be, as much as hand wringing, toynbeesque, guardinistas think it is/are.

these people live in a sneering, 'my farts don't smell' bubble, where they think they know best and everyone who disagrees with them is thick and or racist and or bigoted.
Got to say I agree with every word of that and the last line sums up the elitist clique perfectly. Well said!

Big Business loves PR because they love weak ineffective governments !
There is no perfect electoral Process as they have all been corrupted beyond recognition which is why in th UK they shit themselves over the possibility of Jeremy Corbyn becoming PM !

They keep saying that we are the 5th largest economy in the world , if we did copy Wenger perhaps we might get to 4th.

A surge in investment and manufacturing in the U.K. since the referendum. Somebody should drag George Osborne in front of the T.V. cameras to justify the scare tactics he employed up to the vote.
Oh, and the Pound is soaring.

I wouldn't say the pound is soaring but it certainly hasn't fallen through the floor as some predicted. Yes a couple of airport exchanges had it at parity with the Euro for a while but, apart from the odd emergency traveller, that was a tax on the idle and stupid, not as some would have you believe a sign of Armageddon. A small search of high street dealers would get you 10% more at least.

Would be interesting to see how PR would work for UK but I think in the short to medium term it would be very difficult. Our political system is used to a majority government and the adversarial nature is probably far more of a barrier to effective coalition governing than countries that have traditionally operated by coalition government.
So let's continue with a system that isn't fair and doesn't work just because the alternative might be slightly difficult. Believe the "complexity" of going to a PR system is as nothing compared to Brexit.
Your rationale being predicated on the assumption that you believe that FPTP isn't fair and doesn't work.

Are you mad? Give some evidence. The pound is its lowest levels since the mid 80s and is only a whisker awy from its lowest level of all time.

1st jan 2010 £ 1 .00 = 1.12 euro.
today £1 .00 = 1.19 euro.
Still not good ,but with the right sort of political statements instead of the continual back biting misinformation it should continue to get better.
