Agreed. The sheep and the blind optimists will call it a successful season because we did not expect to get near the top four but ultimately they do not see the fact that this was our chance. We will not build on this and go one further and win it next year like a good few of them seem to believe.
This season was our chance because the other big 6 teams were nearly all in transition or under new managers or did not deliver as expected because of one thing or another. Next year most of them will be back on form or have managers settled in and will have spent big to strengthen and then you add in the toon spending billions this summer and we are back to an early exit from the CL and scrapping for 4th place.
So yeah we did so much better than we all expected but ultimately we bottled the one real outstanding opportunity we had to win the league in the last 20 years and probably the one opportunity in the next ten to twenty years.
And yes, one of the biggest causes of us blowing that title is Lobotomy Clive.
