As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
Short of physically getting hold of some of these people and repeatedly banging their heads against a wall they are never going to get the points we are trying to make.
I've given up on this debate as as much as I do like a good drawn out debate this could end up taking a emotional toll on my brain. When I read some points on here I can literally feel my head swelling and my grey matter trying to seep out of my ears.
I can't keep making the same arguements over and over so I've been checking out porn instead.

And when he and I say shite, we mean that there's a certain proportion of the home crowd that wants to get on the back of certain players and sometimes the whole team. Yes, it happened in the 60s and 70s, but it was down to a small minority, it wasn't constant and was overlooked because the home support was generally very good.
Wenger must know that Arsenal home supporters are increasingly middle-class people who have to sit down for the games and won't go out of their way to shout for the boys. Traditional British reserve. So we're back to the arguments about creating a big standing area where you can generate a lot of noise which will encourage those who feel a bit timid or embarassed. More noise = better atmosphere = better results = everybody feeling a bit better about themselves and their club = more supporters = more money being spent by supporters= happy bank manager. Arsenal have always been known for innovation since Herbert Chapman walked out of Gillespie Road tube station; it needs somebody now with that vision and enterprise.

I dont want to offend you here mate but that is utter generalised bullshit Fans want to give the players stick do they ? Do you honestly feel that some fans would rather have an unsuccessful team that they can abuse rather than a team that sweeps all before them ? If you answer yes to that then I am wasting my time here cos you would rather have a pop than actually acknowledge anything rationally. I am one of the fans who is very unhappy with the team that represents us nowadays and some of the players in particular but I am also one of those that bemoans the fact that we are no longer allowed to stand up and sing at matches and you will feel that the vast vast majority of the "realists" on here are also in both camps. What you have done is take one group of fans (the realists) and lumped them in with another group of fans (those that dont sing) and christened them all as middle class shit supporters I'll bet a lot of thought went into analysing that eh ?
Anyway saying as you like maths and working out equations and the like how about I throw this one at you -
more investment in players = better quality players = better quality team = more successful team = much happier bunch of supporters = better atmosphere = even more demand for tickets = higher ticket prices = more revenue for the club
Do you see how simple it is for the board/manager to make genuine efforts to improve the quality of the team by bringing in better quality players than we already have and yet the knock on effect can actually increase revenue ?

So now we're advocating even higher ticket prices don't get me wrong I'm all for more investment in the team/squad but while I see how that would equate to increased revenue, I fail to see how it will lead to an increase in the only figure that really matters ie the profit margin seeing as it would almost certain to be offset by transfer fees and more/higher wages
We can invest Chsleski style but not gonna make a difference until players start getting a winning mentality.
Wenger have got everything wrong once again.
I think he'll find his players have all the support in the world if they give 100% and put up a fight, like The Carling cup final 07, the Cl final 06 or the semi final of the FA cup 99 to go back even further. There's no way Wenger can look us in the eyes and say his players wanted it as much as ManU or Spurs did when they knocked us out of the domestic cups last season or The CL semi this season though, that's why we're furios. He can protect his players all he want but protecting someone who's showed lack of commitment on the pitch is just poor.
It's just like the forign players debate. Nobody wants him to stop swoop Fabregas for Huddlestone..it's just about giving someone young british talent a chance instead of the likes of Stepanovs, Malz, Cygan Vivas etc and more recently Song and Eboue.

BB, I aint for one nano second advocating increasing ticket prices as they are already at an extortinate level - however I am saying that from the boards point of view if they spent a few bob on better players they would get it back in the long run and we all know that money is all important to this current board

In all fairness it didn't work for Leeds tho did it???
The point being that your equation is fundamentally flawed in that (hypothetically speaking of course) by trying to compete with Utd, Chavs and not forgetting City when it comes to bidding for coveted players and offering personal terms any rise in revenue due to increased ticket prices would merely be siphoned off to pay even higher wages and fees, so the bottom line which is what really counts to any board would remain relatively unchanged!
Maybe more money was the wrong phrase for me to use BB cos what I meant is that the *word censored* who dont want to spend any money could recoup it if they invested i8t in the team so while they wouldnt make any extra money they wouldnt lose any either
Well success would certainly lead to more money being recouped by the club and not necessarily only in the form of higher ticket prices. I'm talking in terms of sponsorship deals (which come with built in bonuses for success), bigger merchandising sales, higher television appearance fees, additional prize money.
One final thing, although we can't compete with Man Utd and Chavs in terms of massive transfer fees, we don't and didn't need to spend as much as them to make us a bit stronger. Just a couple of experienced players a couple of seasons ago and then again this summer could have made all the difference. As for a wages difference, we are certainly right up there with the other teams at the top when it comes to total player wages. It's how we choose to distribute it which is the difference. I would much prefer some of the underachievers received less in order to free up money for better players who could actually make a contribution to us competing with our rivals.
