Flamini cost us nothing (apart from compensation?) and the same situation when he left. AC are apparently asking for £7.5m? I cannot see Wenger coughing up the money for a player we had for nothing.
It's nice to see he has overcome personal pride to let Campbell returning but I cannot see him having the same conviction in allowing Flamini returning.
(although I would like to see a D/M come in on loan to cover the short term, same for a striker)
The thing about resigning Campbell was he cost us nothing, he left for nothing and he is rejoining for nothing.

Like Song then?Bendtners Drinking Buddy wrote:Flamini is still unproven over a sustained period of time in the Prem, id have him back in the squad given the chance, but I actually think we have a better Squad now than we did in 07/08 with Flamini - unfortunately we are suffering more injuries to key players which may be our overall downfall.

I think the answer to the Flamini question is simple. We need someone now, he knows the club and Cesc wouldn't be unhappy with it. He would raise the tempo of the game - and, to the posint of being behind Song - he doesn't have to be - If we can play with Cesc, song and denilson, then we can certainly play flamini instead of denilson, and be better.
maybe Flamini is a one season wonder. maybe not...but we are once again at a stage of the season needing decent recruits who don't need much time to fit in. And he fits the bill.

No, play him ahead of Denilson. The guy gives us a bit of urgency and tempo.Percy Dalton wrote:So you would sign a player for say £80k a week on shall we say a 4 year contract to cover a player for a month?jtvercetti27 wrote:at the end of the day I'd sign flamini back in a minute, seeing as song is away and the replacements don't have the experience or strength to fill his boots.

I know that I have made this point before but the perception that flamini is a mercenary is based on his choice of club that he joined - if he had of moved to a club that he was going to be a regular player then he could argue that he went to a club where he was more valued or to boost his international chances with regular game time. However he choose to go to milan to sit behind gattuso and pirlo (and ambrosini even
) so there is no way that he could argue that it was a good move regardless of where papa flamini is from.
Personally I wouldnt sign him but given that our transfer policy is going to an all time low lately I am not sure if I give a fcuk or if it matters whether we sign him or not

So what some are saying is that Flamini was a one season wonder because he only played well for one season, conveniently forgetting that season happened to coincide with his first sustained chance to play in his preferred position, it's a bit difficuilt to shine in your preferred position if you don't get a chance to play there.
On the other hand Song is suddenly superior to Flamini because he's had half a good season, which if i'm not mistaken is even less than a one season wonder and one important difference is that Song had already had a season in the position where he stunk to high heaven, so he had one shit season and a good half a season up against Flamini's whole good season, how on earth does that qualify Song as the better player, not to mention Flamini had done a good job when he filled in in other positions when called upon before he got his chance in his preferred position..
It's a big mistake to look at his time at Milan as a guide to what he is capable of now, our players rarely shine at other clubs like they do with us and he was always going to struggle to get a sustained run in the Milan midfield with the big names there still in favour.
I don't agree with those who are trying to minimise his impact in the 2007-8 season, he was a huge influence on the team that season and that fact was made even more obvious when the 2008-9 season began and our midfield were but a shadow of the previous year, that was mostly down to the absence of Flamini and the fact that he was replaced by players who were not capable of replacing what he had brought to the team in the previous season...hence the formation change this year, which i am willing to bet was brought about mainly due to the managers lack of confidence in the current dcm's ability to dominate the middle without assistance.. and don't try to kid yourself that Songs new more limited role has somehow given our centre backs more protection, the goals against tally and video evidence don't bear that out, our cb's are no more protected now than when Flamini was marauding all over the pitch doing the job of two..he makes the game, he pressures, he imposes himself on the game and that is what we have been missing in the midfield. For all Song's vast improvement this season he is still limited as a partner for Cesc, he doesn't have enough speed, drive and appetite to impose his will on the opposition to the same degree as Flam did and i'm sure still could..
If Flam is available and £7.5m is the price, we should bite their hand off, because at that money he is a bargain.
We have spent two years waiting for the manager to bring us up to strength in the dcm area and nothing has happened, i think we all know Wenger is not going to bust a gut to spend the kind of money necessary to bring in real quality, so bringing back Flam has got to be better than anyone else in the £7.5m price range and definitely better than nothing. Even if you happen to prefer Song, surely nobody could deny we desperately need another option, and what could be better than someone who we already know can do a good job for us...
