As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
I was born in Calcutta which is arguably the most football crazy city in India. Pele and Maradona are gods there. During the world cup the entire city gets divided into two sections, the blue and white of Argentina and the yellow and green of Brazil. No other team exists. I have grown up watching my dad and brother covering our house with a gigantic Brazil flag every world cup. I remember crying my eyes out when Brazil lost the final in 1998.
I cant remember when I started liking and supporting the Arsenal. It wasnt one match that I watched or one player that we signed that made me a Gooner. Apart from my local club, Arsenal are the only club I have ever supported. In that time I have seen United winning the treble, Real Madrid winning Champions Leagues and my most favourite player ever Ronaldo playing for Barcelona. But it has always been about the Arsenal for me.
Few years back I was in Singapore and there I met a guy who was a Charlton Athletic fan. He himself told me he thought he was the only Charlton Athlletic fan in Singapore. He wasnt an Englishman or British and never been to England, forget being to a game. But his passion for his team was immense. He would wear his team's shirt and go to whichever place that is showing his team's games and watch his team get trounced week after week, but his enthusiasm never faded. He had his way of dressing up for those games, carrying trumpets and what not, singing songs in his weird accent, stuff that embarasses the "real" fans based in UK. All I know is that he loved his team and his spirit never waned.
I dont know what people has to do to get respected as a "real" fan or be accepted as one. But I dont think love and loyalty has anything to do with man made boundaries.

TBH i think that there is so many versions of Fans/supporters/followers etc that it kind of ends up in the same category as whats a big club?
My view ( might be worth fook all) but if you can go to games in any capacity then good on ya. Even if its just the odd one here and there maybe pre season games, it all counts.
For the overseas fans we are all in the same boat with following teams. I am a raiders fan in American Football ( Never seen em live). Seen the Giants play live in NY so i am in the same boat as any tourist that comes to the Grove. YEP!!
What gets my back up ( as i am a season ticket + 15 aways per yr) is when you get the pure armchair giving it when they dont even try yet alone have ever been to the ground of "Their" team. Been to Mould Trafford 9 times no doubt more than most part time mancs but it seems to be the ones who have never been shout the loudest.
Back your team whever you are!!
