As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
AJAAFC wrote:He is a lot better than Wenger in many aspects: player relationships, tactics, scouting opposition, forward planning, judging a player.... need I go on?
I'm sure I didn't dream this but sometime around the World Cup, one of our players who was in South Africa said something like "we don't spend any time studying or talking about the opposition". If I'd have been an Arsenal board member reading that I would have hauled Wenger before me to explain!
It does seem to make sense though considering some of the performances over the last few years. The misplaced corners and free-kicks, giving key players from the other team too much space...
In my opinion I cannot ever think of something that Wenger has done DURING a game to change something - a tactical tweak or an instruction from the sideline. He sticks to his guns (excuse the pun) and we either win or lose. Because of that stubbornness and our lack of quality through the squad - we are therefore guaranteed to lose at least six games a season. Which isn't good enough.
I'd take Mourinho over Wenger all day every day IF I owned Club X from City Y....
As an Arsenal fan though you have to look at what we owe Wenger and summise it would be a big kick in the teeth for him to be replaced by someone who has him nailed...
I rarely disagree with anything Mourinho says - whether I like him or not is a different matter...
Are you sure mate ? Player relationships ? How many players have you heard say "he's like a second father" ?
We are guarnteed to lose six games a season, what like in 2003-4 you mean..
Don't get me wrong he has faults, but I think that summary is way overboard.

Probably because when he was here the media were still in awe of what Wenger had done recently with less resources than Moaninho and they all thought Maoninho was (and still is) an odious little prick.
Who can forget him having a go at St John's Ambulance in Liverpool after there champs league game there.
He demands and gets respect for what he's done but regardless of what Wenger hasn't done in 5 years, he is still very much admired by a lot of european lcub chairmen.
He is a bit like Spurs when it comes to Wenger, it doesn't matter what he does he'll still be too bothered by what AW does.
Sad really
Pretty much spot on, but as Flash said, no way he ever come to Arsenal.
I love Arsenal to bits but what he said was right. Wenger has won nothing for 5 years and Mourinho cant understand why everyone still raves about Wenger.
In my eyes the whole goalkeeping situation proved to me that Wenger isnt the genius we thought he was.
Great yes but not in Mourinhos class and that backed up by trophys won and results since 2005.
Money or no money its a results game
Just to add I hated the guy at Chelsea really hated him but he is a winner and that is why he deserves respect. Never does it the easy way either so everyone hates him but thats just him.
He told the Daily Mail: "Manchester United would be a great challenge for me. But Liverpool is not the club for me. I know why, but I cannot tell you. Tottenham, Everton... Arsenal maybe. These are all fine clubs with very good managers.

People still rate Wenger as a world class manager because:
We are talked about as a title contenders (even if we're not favourites) and seen as one of the teams with a realistic chance of winning the UCL every season.
He is one of 2 managers that has won EPL more than once. I don't count Chelsea.
He has developed some of the best players the world has ever seen in the the last 20 years.
He is the only manager that have challanged Fergie for the last 10 years or so.
& he has done all this with money he's generated by selling players and giving us a very popular statues around the world with the football we play.
Wenger's one of two managers that are challanging on the world stage with a team he's build on his own, with self generated money.Don't get me wrong, I'm as frustrated as anyone by his stubborness but I'd find any Gooner questiong him as a world class manager very hard to take seriously. People who want him replaced don't know what they are talking about and it would take them 3 weeks before they started wishing him back.
Admirably as your defence of Arsene Wenger is, you can't 'not count Chelsea' - no matter how convenient it might be to your argument!!!
Also, I would take issue with the first point you made about having a 'realistic chance of winning the CL every season'; Do we? Really? Or did you mean a realistic chance of making it through the group stages every season - because that's more accurate.
And the fourth point of 'Wenger being the 'only manager to challenge Fergie' for the past 10 years or so. Firstly, no-one else has been around that long; and secondly - what about Mourinho?

If only it was that easy, eh? We could discount Ferguson, Hiddick, Van Gaal, Guardiola, Ancelotti and then Real Madrid, Barcelona, Man Utd and any other manager or club that might threaten the notion that we're not the best team in the world and that Wenger isn't the best manager ever.
AJAAFC wrote:Oh and I will have to check this but the money thing is a bit of a myth where Mourinho is concerned:
Porto - relatively rich in terms of their domestic competition but wouldn't even touch the surface of the top 25 clubs in Europe - result Champions League!
Chelsea - I think it was Ranieri that went on the wild spending spree!!! Mourinho came in and strengthened the right areas in the right way... yes he had a big cheque book to do so... but he found the right players with very little waste.
Inter - Inherited the majority of the squad he won those trophies with and turned them into World beaters almost overnight!
A truly great football manager!!!
You can check one of my older posts for a run down of Chelsea's Rainieri/Mourinho spending spree. Your points are solid though. Mourinho is a good manager, regardless of his spending. You can see that when you see how loyal his former players are; most speak volumes about his character and they really play hard for him.
Wenger too is loved, but sometimes I think he isn't respected by players as much as he used to be; simply because Arsenal haven't won trophies lately. When he was creating/developing players like Henry, Pires, and the Invincibles, he was a legendary figure. Now he strikes me as a coach that players admire, but do not fear. Sometimes you need to instill a little of that into your players and let them know that some mistakes are simply intolerable.
