Bendtner; The Leg-end

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Nordtveit wasn't the one who criticised him though. He was just a reserve lad who trained with the first team and observed Bendtner's attitude up close. Nordtveit couldn't dream of criticising Bendtner mate, no way. He's not even played a game for us as you say.

Bender arrogance is something else. I remember him saying he should start every game for Arsenal, as other than Henry no one is a match for him. And that was said during his time at Birmingham.

Anyway, I think he'll be decent for your lot. I can see him scoring a few goals.

Gyan and him upfront sounds good on paper.........or on FIFA 12.

Under 24 hours until his debut!!!!! :barscarf:

Anyway, he has finally spoken, and his interview from the club site is below:

Nicklas Bendtner has declared his intention to get his career "back on track" under the tutelage of Steve Bruce at Sunderland.

The striker has joined on loan from Arsenal in search of first team football and jumped at the chance to sign for Bruce, who he also played for at Birmingham during the 2006-07 season.

The Sunderland manager is delighted to have added a proven Barclays Premier League performer to his ranks and Bendtner is equally pleased to have signed on at the Stadium of Light.

"This has been a very long time on the way so I'm very happy to finally be here," he said.

"Steve Bruce was the main reason behind me choosing to come here in the first place.

"I heard about the club and the players too and decided this was a good opportunity for me.

"It is a chance to try and get my career back on track."

Bendtner has scored more than 50 senior goals and is a regular at international level for his native Denmark, for whom he scored twice against Norway in midweek.

The towering frontman began his senior career with a handful of appearances for Arsenal before joining Bruce at Birmingham in August 2006.

The loan spell gave the striker valuable experience before he headed back to North London and he is hoping to prosper under Bruce's leadership once again after slipping down the pecking order at the Emirates.

"Having played under Steve at Birmingham I know what he is all about," said Bendtner, who has played more than 150 times for Arsenal.

"He plays an attacking style and likes to get the ball forward, which is something I value and is how I like to see the game played.

"I want to try and get back on track. I have not played consistently. Being at Arsenal and sitting on the bench for a long time was not the ambition I had.

"I am really looking forward to being in a new place and playing well here."

Bendtner could make his Sunderland debut at the Stadium of Light on Saturday against Chelsea, with whom he has enjoyed several cross-London battles as an Arsenal player.

The frontman is looking forward to stepping out at the SoL - but says it's time for the talking to end and the action to begin.

"It's always been a big pleasure to come here. The fans have always been great, they cheer their team on and you can feel that every time you play at the Stadium of Light.

"It is good to be on their side now. I hope to show them that I'm back as I was before.

"Let me put it this way. It's been a long time since I've played game in, game out. When I do that, I'll be a different player than I've ever been before.

"Instead of talking too much I would just like to go out and show the fans what I can do on the pitch."

I think he'll be good for you safcftm.

When played up front as a target man and not a winger, I think he'll be useful. He just can't really play in a 4-3-3 apart from in the middle, so in your 4-4-2 I think he'll do really well.

Him and Gyan will be the perfect quick man/big man partnership.

Typically Gyan is now out for 2 weeks :banghead:
I was looking forward to seeing more of a 4-4-2 having played all season thus far with a 4-4-1-1 but instead I think we'll have to play Chelsea with (since O'Shea is out as well)

..... ........... ...Mignolet
Bardsley Brown Bramble Richardson
Larsson Cattermole Gardener Colback
..... ......... ...Sessegnon
...... ....... .....Bendtner

Not ideal, I was hoping to see Bendtner link up with Gyan, but at least this allows us to keep Sessegnon (who is our best player) in behind the striker where he can cause most damage. I think Bendtner will benefit a lot from a prolonged run of games in his favoured position. I'm under no illusions about next season mind- he'll be here this season, I'm confident he'll do well, and either he'll get more opportunities at Arsenal or he'll be off to a fairly good Spanish/ Italian side, he wont be signing permanently for us anyway

 nope, I have absolute confidence that this man is going to be an absolute star- the only tears we will shed shall be when he waves a tearful goodbye at the last home game of the season and walks down the tunnel for the last time to a chorus of "there's only one Nicklas Bendtner"

 you love it mate, never before have you been kept so utterly bang up to date regarding the fortunes of one of your hottest prospects when they go on loan to another club. Tomorrow at the game I shall try my best to get some photos of Nicklas and maybe even an action clip of him running!!! :barscarf: Next time you're in the pub and one of your mates says "you know what, I'd love to know how Bendtner is getting on at Sunderland, that boy is some prospect", you'll be able to reply and sound all informed and that cos you've been reading this very thread. Finger on the pulse stuff this is. Tomorrow I'll try and get a pic (I might actually get kicked out of the ground as soon as I arrive after the derby match, but if i've survived i'll get the pics) and shall write a detailed match report on him. Cutting edge stuff this!

All I can say is thank god there is the PL clause which prohibits players on loan playing against their club. :barscarf:  Let's just hope he scores a couple tomorrow and helps Sunderland beat Chelsea!! :barscarf: 8)

I'm gonna stick a tenner (last of the big spenders, me!) on Billy Big Bollox to score against the chavs tomorrow. No doubt it'll go in off his chin via his backside but I'm convinced he's gonna bag at least one and then expect to be granted the freedom of the city (/shithole ).

What would he do against Vermaelen, Mertesacker and Szczesny?

Deadly serious. Just what I expected in my first post and more. We (letting gyan go on loan) do not deserve a man like nicklas in our club
