The Rooney Rule

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Morgan Freeman gets it spot on there and its people like you that think they are do gooders that are seperating us and black and white when the people that you call race rose tinters dont see any skin colour at all.
Morgan Freeman 8) Absolute legend and absolutely spot on - I reckon most blacks feel the same.

He puts it perfectly when he says "Why do I want a black history month? Black history is American history".

I think that ends the discussion.

He said 'up the apples and pairs, I go to Canvey Island for my 'olidays, learned every fing about life on the streets and now to protect my manna!
What a strange thing to say about working class kids getting priced out of education :? Good ol' Danny

If there's a significant number of people here, whose history and experience is not covered in any way is it not necessary for a Black history month as much for our sakes if not for theres to inform us of their history, who they are, why they are here in the first place and our role in it?

Racist!!!!!!! So all of us Africans should just fuck off home then!

More necessary than a 'white' history month, when the history curriculum in schools for ten months out of eleven is 'white' history month?
I have done both American and UK history exams, and believe me when I say there is a lot of civil rights stuff in the US compared to here. That's because it is a) more relevant and b) easier for them to relate to. Simply the way things work, don't they.

You could just study, say, elephants, in Biology. You study humans, because it's relevant and more interesting, as you can relate to it. Obviously you study humans at medical school, but before that you still don't study animals.

Er...yes fella, that's kind of the point I made to you when you asked why the lack of coverage of Egyptian history was more racist than the lack of coverage of black history

What's Egyptian history got to do with anything? We ain't in Egypt mate. When did I bring that up? :?

 That was me - I was trying to make the point to our friend here that if we study black history month, shouldn't we have egyptian history month? Or as we have a large asian population, why not an asian history month? Or an Irish history month

How would Irish history be complete without potatoes...

On second thoughts, a lack of potatoes may be more apt.

Back to the football, are you implying NevOutgunned that Hughton and Ince were sacked from Blackburn/Newcastle because of the colour of their skin? :?

I think colour of skin has prevented ethnic minorities from getting opportunities in football management but why would a board who have given the opportunity then use colour as a reason to accelerate departure?

Blackburn and Newcastle have a poor track record in manager turnover irrespective of colour.

I'm very much in favour of the Rooney Rule for the reasons stated earlier :barscarf:

Well someone did.

I can't be arsed looking through the thread again.

Any reason why that quote in blue is submerged in my comment when I never said it in the first place?

His point was why is black history relegated to just one month?

So his criticisms of it aren't quite the same as some on here

He also says if you want to fight racism stop talking about it - something which is a heck of a lot easier to say if you're a hollywood star and not a Black college graduate from the South Bronx who can't find employment suitable for his qualifications

"Apples and Pairs"
We've got a clever one here!

BTW - the ex-Arsenal player is Brian Talbot. His son is good mates with my brother.

PS - Can we have a pre-1996 Arsenal FC History month. I think Always Outgunned needs to know pre-1996 issues. And while we're at it.... During the recession which covered our title winning seasons of 1989 and 1991, was the stadium half-full? Obviously the recession should have meant that we didn't sell out our games. :? I know the answer, because I was at most of the games.

If Brian Talbot left Arsenal in 1985 how the fuck would he know about Davis's coaching abilities eighteen years later?

Perhaps Tom Whittaker has some anecdotes about Davis's coaching abilities maybe next time you should ask him when he appears in one of your medically-induced trances?

Of course anyone with half a brain knows a recession is less likely to effect things when tickets for seats are £5.50 a head rather than £70 a head - even taking inflation over 20 years into account (looks like we've got a clever one here!)[/quote]
