Legends Statues

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Chapman - Now obviously this man is right up there in the Arsenal legends ranking but he does already have a bust which is famous throughout football.

Adams and Henry - Again legends but I do think it is wrong to have two players from the same era. Ok, TA probably spanned era's but he is still heavily associated with 'The Wenger Years' and as Henry is still playing the game I find it weird that we have/need a statue of him already!

Surely these tributes should span the generations and to not recognise Norris or anyone from the 71 Double side to me is odd and slightly sad.

Also, wouldn't it have been fitting to have something permanent to remember Rocky by?

:?
Agree 100%.

And as far as a modern legend? Why Henry and not Bergkamp?

I know it's all about opinions and we'd all choose different players or managers possibly, but I wonder how they decided on those 3? What was the criteria? And what criteria could exclude the entire 71 double side? :?

Again, down to opinions, Don. TH14 may be our highest goalscorer but I rate Bergkamp as our best player ever. There's no competition in that for me. DB10 was the best player in the history of the Engerlish game.

Personally I think any more than one statue is overstating the case and a bit tacky tbh.

And how the fuck Mark Flatts didn't even get a look-in is a travesty. :(

Well this might not be the last of the statues. They might just be doign a few at a time. I'ld personally like George Graham to finally get fucking recognised by the club with a bust.

^^ This.

They should just do one statue every 10 years. 3 at one time is too much.

I think the players have already been given recognition on the murals and that the whole statue thing is a bit naff imo. Especially at a time when fans are being ripped off and we haven't won diddly squat for years.

Nothing wrong with a Tony Adams statue imo.

As far as criteria goes, I think it was important for the club to recognise only players who were given their debut by our dear leader  and Chapman, a visionary who led kickabouts and generally amateurish league challenges until Wenger eventually saw his ideas through to fruition many years later, and made The Arsenal into the club it is today.

Oh. Was Chapman manager in 1995 then? We were called The Loyal Arsenal back then. I'm so old school!

The club have missed the most important person in Arsenal's recent history... perhaps even our entire history!

And he wasn't a player....

Nor a manager...

Nor was he on the Arsenal board....

That's right - Rune Hauge

Without him and his brown paper bag, George Graham may never have been sacked... the likes of Hiller and Jensen may have bossed our midfield for years to come... Rioch wouldn't have been given the chance to not impress the Arsenal board... and, most importantly of all, David Dein may have missed out on signing Arsenal's legendary manager, Arsene Wenger. With, of course, the knock on effect being no doubles, no invincibles, no Henry, no Bendtner and no Wenger Out banner!

Yep, there should be a statue for our favourite dodgy agent, Rune 'I give you Pal Lydersen and a brown paper bag' Hauge :barscarf:

Then surely it all goes back to another Arsenal legend....

John Jensen

or even further back...

John Jensen's Parents

Could have a statue of them getting it on.

 :)
