It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

I know Murray's not the most charismatic fella but how is his personality that bad so as to justify people supporting anybody over him? Interestingly it normally comes down to some of his tongue-in-cheek comments about the English rugby team, although people are normally unwilling to admit that and insist it's for some other vague reason.
tbh i aint a big murray fan but he is a very good tennis player, the ironic thing is though henman was moaned at for not showing enough passion on the court and not getting the fans into enough yet this is what murray does but still it aint good enough for some people. fair enough he's had some digs get over it, he offends the people that call him a brit when he wins and scottish when he loses

Its baffling really. One provoked joke about supporting anyone but the English football team and some people have hated him ever since. The fact of the matter is that he has never made an issue of his nationality or given any indication that competing under the GBR banner makes him uncomfortable, its everyone else that gets their knickers in a twist over it.
Imo he's also not liked because most Tennis fans in this country are middle class housewife types and they're put off by the fact that he's not Tim nice-but-dim Henman and actually has a bit of edge and a will to win.

One of the most ridiculous things about the whole situation is that his response was a light-hearted quip in response to a reporter asking him whether or not he'd be supporting Scotland at the World Cup. Most people would view that as light-hearted banter between an English and a Scottish fan, yet he gets portrayed as William Wallace by some idiots.
At the end of the day the bloke is the only half-decent player Britain has and he's never done anything to suggest to me that he doesn't consider himself to be representing the British people. So the bloke is Scottish and doesn't support the English football team? I could have saved a lot of people's time and effort and told everybody that without this fuss!
I didn't think I'd live to see a Brit in a Wimbledon final. I thought that ship sailed with Tim Henman's dramatic semi-final exit to the weather .... I mean Goran Ivanisevic.
Federer is obviously favourite, but you never know. Come on Andy!

whoever started the tennis clique should be shot
Oh....
I think he should take advantage of the luck of not having to face Nadal - whom I don't think Murray would still be good enough to beat. He's definitely got a chance, as Federer is not the consistently excellent version of 3-4 years ago. I'd still fancy Federer though and it may be that Murray eill just have to wait until all the guys he can't beat just get old
