Johnson’s gone!

He was trying to carve Root out of the ground again but he only succeeds in top-edging it to Lyth, who takes a smart catch.

Johnson goes for an excellent 77, and he’s batted better than he’s bowled in this match.

Aus 242 – 9.

That’s it - Australia have been bowled out for 242 and England have won by 169 runs.

Ali bowls to Lyon - who tries to hoy the ball to Swansea, but he only succeeds in sending it straight up into the air and into Roots waiting embrace.

England go one-up in the five match series and I’ll be back for the Lord’s test.

How's that Australian whitewash, then?

Shame we don't have many Gooners down under on here.

(It's not really a shame at all)

Great win and really significant I think to get Smith and Clarke cheaply. Smith has been tonking it all over the world and Clarke is class - although off the top of my head I don't remember him playing many decisive Ashes innings.

Just as well that we finished it off yesterday - wouldn't have had a ball bowled yet today with the weather in Cardiff

Still reckon we would have got Shane Fatty Watson LBW even if there wasn't any play at all.

He's probably already planted his front foot right in front of middle and off on the Lords track

I'll be gobsmacked if they select him for any other tests this series. In fact, I'm gobsmacked they picked him at all.

Long may it continue.

As an Aussie, he is my most hated player. Highly doubt he will be selected again. Time to give Mitch Marsh a crack at cementing his spot in the Test team. Young talented player who deserves his shot.

As an Englishman, I completely disagree.

I would have thought they'd give him a shot too. Loyalty is laudable, but Watson is clearly shot to pieces now.

Personally I hate David Warner with a passion, ever since he punched Joe Root a few years back. Dunno what Root could have done to wind Warner up apart from smile !

Warner also needs to get rid of his tache, he seriously looks like he's off to the blue oyster bar after a days play!

What's the weather forecast for Lord's? :)

Fairly sure to be a differently paced pitch, so we'll see if the aussies can come back.

And if England don't get ahead of themselves.

And if Officepest can keep up his prodigous reporting.
