As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Although if he gets no where near Iniesta or Rakitic, I wont begrudge him. This is possibly the greatest club side in football history. If not, then its probably the one that won the treble under Pep. I mean, FFS, how good can a team be when they have a realistic chance (not a distant chance) of winning back to back trebles?
the Spanish league is no way near as competitive as the Premier League.
you only really have Real Madrid to beat, although the genius of Simeone means Atletico are also a top team.
yes if they win back to back European Cups it will be good, that's what Nottingham Forest did.
but we really shouldnt be worried about Barcelona - the financial firepower in the PL and especially coming into the PL in the next few years means that we should be taking teams like this on and beating them. Respect them yes but the hero worshipping amongst Arsenal fans is ridiculous
Can't see us scoring more than one goal tonight with our super strike force. Wish we had the 'birthday boy' John Radford in his prime out there. He'd finish whatever we layed on for him. Happy Birthday Big John !!.

Exactly the type of comment that I was referring to above.......if coquelin does well it means that he is top quality, but if he gets his arse handed to him then he might still be top quality I'm sorry but IF coquelin gets the around around then it tells me that we need better (something that I have said many times before) in the DM position - shouldn't we try to be the best we can ? Did you take the same stance when Monaco played around him in the grove last season ? That smacks of a loser attitude to me and it embarrasses me tbh
Reading this thread not sure why everybody is in a so negative mood (besides the Wenger issue ).
You are playing a home game against the currenct CL holder and number one in Spain, but you are Close behind the number one at Position two/three and you have just beaten Leicester in your home game. I'm far away from comparing Leicester with Barca but I'm not sure why everybody here is so down and submissive
Keep the Spirit high and good luck for todays game
Cheers,
Thomas

Cheers! It's our form going in to this game that makes us negative. We'd all be very happy and surprised if we could beat Barca over two legs, but we just can't score goals, but we're always about to concede one even with the mighty Cech between the sticks. They will probably score at least two, I can't see us scoring one. That's the bottom line of it.

The ONLY thing that concerns me is how it will affect our FA cup & PL chances. We are so bad in both those comps at the moment, are we finally going to step up tonight?? And if we do can it light a long overdue fire under our complacent arses?? I am looking beyond this game, in fact I am looking beyond the 2nd leg.....

So basically of Coquelin has a good game then his status as a world class DCM will be all but confirmed. Based on that one game.
Flipside is, if he has an absolute mare it can't be held against him as Rakitic and Iniesta are top drawer.
So it's win-win basically and he's still amazing no matter what.
This would be the same amazing Coquelin who was given the runaround by Zaha at Palace, deserved two yellows and had to be subbed off early to avoid a sending off.
The same Coquelin who again, had to be subbed off early against Leicester after getting the runaround from Kante.

It's sad to feel like this and I can't believe I do, but I do agree with you, PL and cup are way more important in my opinion. This is just a huge distraction because we have no chance. I can't believe I feel so negative about it. We just don't have the quality or the commitment right now.
Barca are out of this world right now - losing is no real reflection on us, they've destroyed city two years on the spin and went to Madrid and put 4 past them, no team is really near them right now. But it would be if you had the government supporting you, wiping off debt and paying for the best players from all over Europe.
I just hope its nothing demoralising and deosnt affect our league form.
Just going to enjoy the game overall and hope they do well, one of the very few times id ever say that!
Just been on Arsenal.con
Wow. The way they're going on its as if Arsenal were little Carlisle United, taking the fight to big bad Real Madrid gesturing Zidane, Brazilian Ronaldo and Di Stefano!
It's frankly embarrassing. I'll just remind everyone we are one of the 7 richest clubs in the world, wage bill on par with Citeh, highest match day revenue anywhere in Europe, owned by not one but two billionaires, and £200m cash in the bank. That's without mentioning the history of 13 league titles. Everything about the club just reeks small-time under this farce manager, which is what happens when expectations are consistently dumbed down.
Truly wish i could actively consider a win over 2 legs (a tie consists of 2 legs not one. So we never "beat" Barca or Bayern!).
Unfortunately I then look to the 2 clowns in attack, see that our strong squad couldn't score v Hull reserves, that our number 9 air scored a league goal in over 450 minutes, that Mertesacker, one of the worst defenders I've seen as a mainstay at Arsenal will be starting, that our football has been ponderous and lethargic and worst of all - that our clown of a manager actually admitted he "couldn't motivate his team" to face Hull at home in a competition he can realistically win, the same competition that's basically kept him in a job!

Aaaah there it is! Apparently, Barcelona "have the government supporting them". That's right. Real Madrid - who actually sold their training ground to the government and are the Kings club don't get government support...Barca, a Catalan club that is anti-establishment are the ones receiving government favours
Someone who doesn't have a clue about politics. Mind you, why not just invent cobblers in a bid to excuse Arsene eh? :roll
Agree though. Let's just "go out and enjoy the day".
We cannot compete against the government state aid (ignore that government state aid has ALWSAYS gone to Madrid and that Barca are actually in slight financial trouble at the moment)

LOL. Ok amigo! Do you want a politics lesson on the differences between a central government based in the capital of Spain (that would be Madrid, I can show you on a map)...and a secessionist regime that doesn't benefit from state aid? (That would be Barcelona)
Buzzing for tonight. Best team in world coming to the Emirates. I could be miserable and pessimistic and bemoan everything and everything OR I could go and wave my plastic bag and cheer on the team I follow, giving them whatever little support I can with a smile on my face.

And your credibiility BDB? Let's not forget your unholy triumverate . Say hello to Swale for us, we miss him
Your "let's just go and enjoy the game" sounds, well, like a tourist or someone impartial, not someone who should be representing our support with vociferous partisanship.
