Plenty of reasons why we are miles behind on developing talent but foremost amongst them is this obsession with making 11 year olds playing on full size pitches. What is the point?

It just perpetuates the problem of academies picking the best players at that age rather than the best players of the future. I Have played with a couple of kids who were first team U12 academy players because they were decent footballers but really strong and could kick a ball 40 yards. Shock horror when they are 16 and looking at youth football they struggle to get into a good semi-pro U19 side.

And when you look at teams the English guys are normally big athletic ones. There must be some small technical players who don't make it.

Leicester might regret not selling McGuire at whatever stupid price Utd we’re willing to pay he looked bang average / shite v Bournemouth and was a bit lucky not to be sent off, before Morgan beat him to it.

I agreed 100% with DB10 when he was slating maguire all summer - maguire is a trier and your typical old school centre back, but he has fcuk all pace, and the suggestion that he is a footballing centre half goes way beyond comical :coffeespit: :coffeespit: :coffeespit:

It also shows that moaning Maureen will just try to buy the man of the moment, not even sure Manu are properly scouting these players.

He seems like a younger Phill Jones to me.

I think defenders tend to look better in counter attacking teams or vert defensive setups, when you take them out of that into a team where the right and left back are playing like wingers , and you CDM is xhaka, they start to look less accomplished.

At bigger clubs when your expected to attack home and away, with a draw away not seen as a decent result, I think defenders have it much harder.

Other than having the biggest head in human history, Maguire is exceptionally average.

Granted the game is only on 15 minutes at this stage, but hughes has his southampton team set-up to play counter attacking football against brighton AT HOME   I like brighton as a club and I like chris hughton as a manager, but with all due respect to both of them, they are not the sort of team that a team should be playing safety first against on their own pitch. I also like southampton as a club (dates back to that 76 cup final v manure 8) ), but hughes is a dispicable b*stard that I would love to see relegated

they also stuffed united 3-1 in the league twice a few years back under fergie - which wasn't easy to do in those days what with all the refs being bent as fuck.
