THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

WENGER OUT

Thank god not everybody is flip flopping today
Seconded

This is the first trophy I've ever seen us win and I can't even enjoy it as fully as I'd like to knowing that this means Wenger staying for another three years is a certainty which means days like yesterday will be a rarity.

Why can't he just leave on a high while he still can?

It seems like only yesterday I made that thread telling Arsenal fans to get behind Wenger, after the thrashing by Chelsea. I got slaughted.

I still dont think Wenger is the man for the job. We made a hash of it again. Once again we got obliterated in the opening 20 minutes, leaving me to believe that Wenger cannot coach out this weakness despite the experience at the back.

Give him a rolling 1 year deal until Mourinho gets sacked and give him the job.

Yes, but why don't we play it all the time - and why switch out a lethal finisher for the out of his depth sanogo to do it ?

Plus yet again we got done in the first 20 by zonal marking - as Warren Barton said, a player standing still is never ever going to out jump a player with a four yard run up.

I will be fair though - holding back 2 subs until 105 mins when hull were already spent was a very smart psychological move, but again had Alex Bruce stayed on maybe we'd never have got to extra time.

Yesterday was a great day but Wenger n the board have to recognise it just papers over the cracks - had that been any of the top 5 they would have been 3 or 4 up and we would of had no way back.

Penalties aside, we got lucky.
Who is that lethal finisher, podolski by any chance?? My belly is aching, he was one of our worst players yesterday.

Despite Sanogo's awful control and general clumsy play, it was his pace and direct attitude that opened it up for the other players came on. I fail to see how any gooner on this forum cant get that concept. BUT I am not going to focus on the negative, it was an amazing day and just come back from the armoury which was buzzing this morning.

.
nut - caz was playing where Ozil should of been, and Ozil was pushed (crowded out) wide, Pod was playing out wide the other side - neither is their strong points - Pod's strength is charging the box and finishing off a quick move, oz's strength is the same as Caz's - moving quickly through the middle.

with both pod and ozil pushed out wide neither of them had any service - ramsey and caz only had Giroud to aim for and he was man marked - hence the perception that Rambo, Pod and Ozil were bollocks.

they weren't, they were just wrongly used in a poor tactical set up.

as soon as sanogo came on, wenger put him in the middle - which gave caz and rambo more to aim for, and created a little space for Giroud and Ozil, who got on the ball much more after the sub came on. pod or anyone (gnabry, wally etc) would have produced the same effect.

it was poor tactics and late realization - as i said in the "when the dust has settled" thread " if you can't get two world class German players on the ball, something is wrong tactically"...

Wengers lack of self-awareness of his own team and their strengths and weaknesses is shocking. :banghead:

and of course there's our lack of pre match preparation and post match analysis - this is what Van Gaal will bring to united :
He gives each player a four-page manifesto that outlines his strict rules. It states exactly what the player can and cannot do, with strict instructions about behaviour and discipline, limits on media and promotional work, and lunch and dinner rules in hotels and at training camps.

Van Gaal has also taken to banning players from wearing headphones when they travel on the team bus to matches.

Ajax’s international defender Joel Veltman said: “Van Gaal is always talking and communicating with the players. After a meal, he will always have a talk or a chat.

“I now have a totally different opinion of him. He was portrayed to me as a right bully and that he sees himself as being above the squad.

“But, once I was training and playing under him, I found he was a brilliant guy to talk to. He makes jokes and respects every player. He has a good sense of humour – a bit sarcastic – but footballers like that.”

Ryan Giggs will play a pivotal role in Van Gaal’s regime. As the Dutchman’s No.2, Giggs will be responsible for delivering all post-match team-talks, using dvd footage to illustrate his message.

Van Gaal limits his input to the days leading up to games and is the sole voice to be heard in the dressing room in the minutes before kick-off. He also embraces the same old-school philosophy that was pivotal in making Sir Alex Ferguson United’s most successful manager.

Van Gaal stresses what goes on inside the sanctity of the dressing room must always remain private.

But he also buys into new managerial techniques and technology to make him a better coach.

Van Gaal uses Google Glass and Oculus Rift digital glasses to put players in a virtual world where they are confronted with their own actions from games they have played.

He has also adopted the computer programme ‘Team Performance’, encouraging players to log on to laptops when they are at home to access DVD material from previous games, which highlights any technical and tactical mistakes they have made.

only 3 years younger than wenger but a generation ahead in terms of technology. :banghead:

Had a club match of my own this morning so I missed the parade (though I did sky+ it) but the wife was telling me a funny story from the parade - apparently sky were interviewing a family of Gooners (a dad, a 14 year old son, a 9 year old son and a 5 year old son) and they asked the dad a question and he nervously answered it and then they asked the 14 year a question and he spoke about using the win as a platform to build on and then they asked the 9 year a question and he spoke about how much he wants sagna to stay. Finally they turned to the 5 year old and he told the guy how much he wants wenker to leave the club.......apparently the poor father was stuck to the spot and didn't know what to say

At times I despair about the Gooner fanbase but it fills my heart with joy to see such a wise 5 year old boy who is ready to carry the baton for all future Gooners   :barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf:

I was well pleased for Wenger yesterday, he looked like a relieved man
The players were all pleased for him, so it shows he must be good to work with.
I'm not a big Wenger fan, but if he signs a new contract I won't be unhappy, if we hadn't had so many injuries, who knows we might of been celebrating the double.

we were at full strength yesterday with the exception of Walcott, and yet we still went 2-0 in eight minutes and couldn't defend set pieces in the air the whole game against Hull. Hull FFS....

without major tactical changes we will finish 5th next season - don't forget that we only got through the first three rounds because wenger thought he was fielding his 'weaker' team.

I'm very happy we won, but to consider it any more than a happy accident is deluding yourself mate, sorry n that...

Exactly. Proving that with luck even dross can win the cup. Same dross also went 1-0 on us and we couldn't beat over 120 minutes...

Yup, Liverpool, Everton and Athletico Madrid must be shaking in their boots after yesterday's performance...

You must be taking the piss.

That classless prick who's clearly envious of our club will never be associated with it.

We also knocked both of them out of the FA Cup en route to our trophy; conversely, they won fuck all.

Really don't understand this mentality.

We won the FA Cup, Liverpool and Everton won sweet fuck all - I don't see how they come into the equation.

Do you think Arsenal tremble with fear when they think about Liverpool or Everton?

Are you petrified by those two clubs or something?
